Thus; the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
Good Monday Morning, my dear brothers and sisters. What a great weekend. I wrote on Saturday Morning, we had people come to the food pantry for groceries in the afternoon. I did some cooking, and I love to cook. And then Dolores and I went out to hear some old guys sing. And we heard some other groups also. Then on Sunday after preaching and having a great lunch, I did what God told me to do... I rested, watched some NASCAR, a little football, played with the dogs, fed the goats, chicken, and rabbit and rested some more.
Monday and the day we pray for our leaders in Washington (who all have today off) and for our leaders at the State House (they are off also), And those at our local governments (some will be off) and those leading our schools... and they should go to school and learn what this holiday is about.
Anyway, we also pray for our troops (those in the war zones never get a day off). We pray for our police and fire fighters (they don't take off either). And we give thanks also to God who never ever goes away from you, even if you don't want Him, He is standing nearby waiting for You to invite Him in.
A lot to pray for today, and here is something nice about today since all those government workers will be off, traffic will be low. Enjoy your drive to work, and stay off the phone.
By the way, all electric cars are being recalled. At the first intersection on a major highway last week, all the electric cords got tangled... (ok, I will get on message)
Creation Moves Ahead: Genesis 2:1 - Thus; the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. 2 By the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing, so on the seventh day He rested from all His work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it He rested from all the work of creating that He had done. (NIV)
Ok, so what is the seventh day? If you look at today's calendars you will indeed see it is Saturday. Most Christians have Sunday as the Holy Day. Now I guess I could debate this for a long time, but I want to apply some common sense on this one to fit today's work loads and people. Here goes, and I trust that some of you will agree with me on this.
Does it make any difference if that seventh day would be Saturday or Sunday according to our calendar? I don't think so. God has given us seven days in each week and as far as I am concerned we should live all of them to please Jesus, thus we should be keeping all of them Holy. Someone please say Amen!! Now we also know that in our days now, we have people who must work Saturdays and Sundays, some of them both days. Police, Firefighters, Hospital employees, and yes, people who work in our retirement homes. And my Christian brothers and sisters, we do expect that people will be working in those restaurants so we can go there after church to eat, right??
So now what do we do, do you think people are going to be in trouble with God for working on that seventh day? No, I believe that God healed people on that day, and set the example that in some things we must do. Farmers must milk those cows, feed the livestock, and water them, oh and we who preach, must preach. So then, what? Again I say we need to keep each day Holy and we should, if working those weekends, take another day off during the week to rest our bodies.
Sadly today we have a lot of folks that don't go to work, some are out of work and want to find work in the worst sort of way. (Please pray for Mark and others looking hard for a job.) Others though are just riding out that unemployment or riding the system. Folks, the Bible said that God rested just one day. Now folks, there are people who because of health reasons, just cannot work and we who are healthy need to take care of them.
Dear Father in Heaven, please help those looking for work to find it, and help those who are sick, get well so they can go to work, and Lord, bless our troops and our police and firefighters and all those who work to keep us safe and free. Watch over your children, dear Lord, and help all of us keep every day Holy and live it to please You. Lord, I do not want to be a Sunday Christian, I want to be a Follower of Jesus Christian seven days a week, and seven nights a week. Lord, help me. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
Now go forth this day following Jesus, keeping each day Holy and living it to please Jesus. Tomorrow, Adam and Eve... Love ya, Pastor Dan...
