"Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."
Good Salvation Wednesday, my dear brothers and sisters. It is Wednesday, and that does mean it is Salvation Wednesday, the day we pray for the lost, the backslider, and even for all of us who are saved so that we get tighter and tighter with our Lord Jesus. Also remember tomorrow is the National Day of Prayer. Folks, may I just say this... If we truly love Jesus, is not every day for us a National day of prayer? I will not make it to our state capitol (Harrisburg, Pa.) tomorrow but do intend to go to the flag pole at our township building (Silver Spring) and pray there.
Great Promises 8: Matthew 4:19 - "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "And I will make you fishers of men." At once they left their nets and followed Him. (NIV)
That was the account of Jesus calling brothers Peter and Andrew. Now how in the world did I come up with this one as a great promises of God? Well, God pointed it right to me this morning... Notice that Jesus said to Peter and Andrew, "Come, follow me, and I WILL MAKE YOU fishers of men." Did Jesus not promise that if the brothers would indeed follow Him that He would make them fishers of men, that He would make them disciples, He would use them? Brothers and sisters, is that same promise made to us this day? Are we not to follow Jesus and are we not the disciples of today? As I watch all the news these days, and about the big oil spill going on in the south, I would like to see just one fisherman instead of saying BP is going to pay for this I am losing my living, or why should we sign on for BP and help the cleanup, they did this to me... What if just one would look at it as a good chance to lay down their nets and follow Jesus? Just one!!
Great Promises are all throughout the Bible and the more I look the more they are pointed out to me. Take a look at the Beatitudes, which you can find in Matthew 5 starting with verse one, and see just how many of those are great promises. Listen to just a couple of them, yes listen to these promises... "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." "Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy." While I love them all, please listen to this one and remember these are the words of Jesus... "Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God." "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." These from my New International Standard Bible. WILL SOMEONE PLEASE SHOUT...
THANK YOU JESUS FOR GREAT PROMISES. Thank you.
Dear Father in Heaven, what a great and wonderful savior You are. No one else went to the cross for me, and never will. I love You Jesus, and really want to do better each day. Help me to bring in the lost so that You might save their souls. Lord, please, let us work for You daily. In the name of Jesus, I give thanks and praise... Amen.
Now go forth, hugging on Jesus, hugging others, sharing blessings that have been bestowed upon you. And remember to talk to God today... get in practice for tomorrow and every day after that... Love ya, Pastor Dan.
