Tuesday 6/7/11 What's in a name? 2

And one cried unto another, and said, "Holy, Holy, Holy, is Lord of Hosts: The whole earth is full of His Glory."

Good Morning, my dear brothers and sisters. It is a great morning here at the Southern Location of the North Pole... It is Tuesday, and the day we pray for cures for those diseases like, but not limited to, cancer and heart problems. Please add to those cures a cure for those who drink too much, and while that cure would be easy, just get rid of the alcohol. Please pray for those who have drinking problems. Pray for Donna who is struggling with it. She is an alcoholic. Please keep our son Matthew in your prayers for this. Matthew has been clean from it for a year and a half, doing one day at a time. We praise God for each day of him being clean and for Sonshine Ministries where Matthew lives.

Please pray today for Pearl who is 85 and has dementia. Pearl still lives at her own home with help and family working with her daily... Please pray for Carry The Light Ministries, some of our foods are running low as we keep getting calls for new families... Please pray for Rebecca and Timothy who I will be marrying this Saturday and pray for me as I do this wedding. This couple is very young and needed a judge's approval to get the licenses. So why am I doing the wedding? First and foremost I talked to God about it, I did not just say yes. Then I discussed it with another pastor, and after talking with me and giving me his opinion I took on the wedding. Rebecca is in the motherly way and I want to see that she carries that child. Next I wanted to sit down with them and talk to them about Jesus, instead of them just going to a District Justice. I want to try and teach them that God needs to head up a family, something I did not know when I first walked down the aisle. Also Tim is leaving for the military and I have been promised by the couple that I will be called if they need help. Sort of like an old grandpa (which I am) So pray, warriors, pray.

What's in a Name? 2: Isaiah 6:2 - Above it stood the Seraphims, each one had six wings; with the twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. 3 And one cried unto another, and said, "Holy, Holy, Holy, is Lord of Hosts: The whole earth is full of His Glory."

As I work at names I talked to my beautiful wife and asked her what her name meant. Dolores means Sorrow in Spanish. Do you know what your name means? Share it with me, please.
Let me talk about some other names today, some that have been given to people out of respect, nicknames, let me say. Tomorrow we will talk about some of those really bad names. Let me tell you about my big brother Leonard! My late brother Leonard was 3.5 years older than me and the strongest man I ever knew. I watched my brother carry a fridge into our home one time all by himself, no dolly, no straps, just put a rope around the bottom, lifted it with his arms and walked it into the house, even up some steps. I held the door open. He at a very young age was also a great mechanic and took auto shop at John Harris High School. He earned the respect of his classmates who gave him the nickname of "Wrench". Once in a while one of his buddies would call me "little wrench" but most often "screwdriver". They said jokingly that I had a screw loose. Well maybe they were not joking. Oh, well. We had nicknames for most everyone back in those days. "Grinner" for a guy who was, yes, always grinning. We had "Mauler" Brown for he was a heavyweight and hard to bring down in our football pickup games. "Mauler" went to college and became a pastor. My nickname... I was called "Danny", sort of dull, I would have loved to have been called "Wrench" but I was not the mechanic, my dear late brother was. There was "Big Red" and "Mitch" and I could go on and on... But let's move over now to a few more of the names of our Good Lord and where they come from in the scriptures...

In our lead-in scripture, we see the name of Lord of Hosts being used. He was also called Jehovah of Hosts and while we are in the book of Isaiah let's check for a couple more...

Isaiah 8:14 - "And He shall be a Sanctuary." Yes, a Sanctuary, when I think of a sanctuary I think of a place of peace where one can go to be safe. You hear often about Bird Sanctuaries, and while I am not a bird watcher, I sure love to look at them in all their colors. Brothers and sisters, as we look at our Lord as a Sanctuary, a person we can turn to for safety, and peace and forgiveness...

Now let's go to Isaiah 9.6 and see all the names in that one verse...

Isaiah 9.6 - For to us a child is born, to us a SON is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called WONDERFUL, COUNSELOR, MIGHTY GOD, EVERLASTING FATHER, PRINCE OF PEACE. (NIV)

Our God has been given seven names in this verse. I made it easy on you, I printed them large... Our God is The Son, born in the barn. Our God is Wonderful, and boy I know that, He is very forgiving, and to me that makes Him Wonderful... He is a Counselor, and we can call on Him night or day and He does not need $100 an hour to talk to you, and folks, NO APPOINTMENT IS NEEDED, just call on Him. He is Mighty, let's face it, He can cause the storms and calm them. He can heal you and make you whole again. He is stronger than the train engine, and yes, He can leap over a building. Ok, let me take something back, my brother is the second strongest man I knew or know. Our God is first, after all, He's got the whole world, in His hands... Ok, and He is Everlasting, and our Father and He is the Prince of Peace, and do you know when we pray for peace and we pray often for peace, when we are praying for peace we are praying for God The Father to send Jesus back for us. Now I have gone long again today, but when I mentioned He's Got the Whole World in His hands, you just know I need to send you out singing...

Dear Father in Heaven, Please know that I love You and pray that all on this line Love You. Please help me get Your word, the good news out daily. And Lord, hear our prayers today and act on them according to Your will, dear Lord. For we know Your will is best for everyone. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Now go forth singing and praising God and Sharing your blessings... Love ya, Pastor Dan.

He's got the whole world in His hands, He's got the whole world in His hands, He's got the whole world in His hands, He's got the whole world in His hands...

Ok, here are your next verses.
You and me Brother
You and me Sisters
The Tiny Little Baby
He's got all on this line, in His hands
and you can add a few, in fact you can sing it all day just making up things because He really has
EVERY THING in His hands...
