Wednesday July 6, 2011 Back To The Basics 2

And God said, "Let there be light and there was light."

Good Morning, my dear brothers and sisters, it is Wednesday and that means it is Salvation Wednesday on this line. The day in the middle of the week where we focus our prayers on the unsaved and also ask God to help we who are "Born Again" to be of assistance to Him in getting people ready to be saved. Remember we are not a savior, only a worker for The Savior. Please pray for three sisters on this fine Wednesday, pray for Donna, Beverly and Sandy. Also pray for Michael and his family.

Back To The Basics, Day 2: Genesis 1:3 - And God said, "Let there be light and there was light." (NIV)

Yesterday I asked you to tell me the first commandment in the Bible and I also said it was not a trick question. However, I did not say the first commandment that He made to/for man. So tomorrow's homework is to find that one... Thanks to those who responded, and like my teacher said to me many times, Dan, you wrong. But you are thinking and reading the Bible and I loved those responses that tell me where it came from and why it was their answer.

When you look back, can you remember some of the very first things that your parents taught you, and do you still put them into practice today? Tell me some of them that came from the Bible and some that was just wisdom from parents. Also what were some of the basics you taught your children?

Here are just a few that my mamma taught me... Danny, she would say, lift the lid before you go to the toilet and when finished put it back down and then wash your hands. Always put on clean underwear each day, for you never know when you might need to go to the hospital. Brush your teeth, don't just wet the toothbrush. And as I got a little older here is one she taught me, and anyone who has walked with me, know that I still do this... Danny, gentlemen always walk on the outside of a lady. When I went on my very first date, I can remember doing just that, and although I do not walk much anymore, I still to this day walk on the outside, the traffic side. I would like to hear from you folks, what were some of the basics that you were taught?

Now let me look at a few, just a few from the Bible... Since it is Salvation Wednesday, I might as well talk about Salvation, and eternal life through Jesus Christ. Here is the basic parts of it... It must be done through Jesus... Supporting Bible verse.

John 14:6 - Jesus answered, "I am the way, and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (NIV)

So it is just basic that the only way to heaven is through Jesus our Lord. All other ways lead the other way, ok, let me spell it out. The only way to heaven is through Jesus, any and all other ways lead to Hell, period. Basic, what must you do to find Jesus? Love Him, and believe in Him... There is that four letter word again. LOVE. So you love Him and then what? Back to the Basics.
Bible support for this comes from:

Romans 10:9/10 - That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord" and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. (NIV)

Now that is the basics, of course there is more, we must work for Jesus, we must love Him and others. Next week if God directs me that way, we will discuss working for Him. But this week, basics. Now remember for tomorrow, send me some of the basics that your mother and father taught you, and also what was the first commandment God gave to man? Hint, look in Genesis:

Ok, I have had a ball, but I must get moving. Dear Father in Heaven, bless this day, Oh Lord, for my dear brothers and sisters, and help us always remember the basics and to keep things simple. Lord, your word is so wonderful, we do not want to get caught up trying to twist it to mean different things. We want to use Your word so we can fall deeper and deeper in Love with You and with our neighbors also. Bless those on our prayer lists from today and days past. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Now go forth sharing your blessings, and men, put that lid down when finished. And ladies, don't hang that pantyhose in the shower... just basic... love ya, Pastor Dan.
