Dear Father in Heaven: Praise You, Lord, for this beautiful day and praise You for watching over us. I love You, Lord, and I appreciate the fact that You watch over us and all of our families. I appreciate that You trust me to write on this line and I pray that I always honor You in all that I do. Lord, I could not do one thing, nor would I want to anymore without holding Your hand. Please, Lord, help me with this message today, and please, Lord, may the words that this lady spoke years ago keep on witnessing to others as it has done for me over the years. Please then help me to dispatch the message. In Jesus' Name, I pray. Amen.
Greetings, brothers and sisters. What a beautiful day here at the Southern Location of the North Pole. If you are like me, it seems the older I get the more I look back. Today I want to tell you about a beautiful Christian lady who made a big impression on me and also the others singing with Carry The Light years ago.
Tuesday: April 12, 2014: "Mother" Brown
We met this lady, Evangelist Jane (Mother) Brown back about 1994 or 1995 while singing at Dauphin Manor. The "Retirement/Nursing" home is located on Paxton Street just outside of Harrisburg, PA. They, at the time, had a very large activity room and a stage up front. The very first time we sang there, we noticed this lady in the front row seated in a wheelchair. The more we sang, and the more of those fast jumping songs like "The Saints" and "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder" I would notice how she would be lifting her arms to the Lord in Praise. You could see Jesus in her beautiful but worn face. After the concert I went down and talked to her. She spoke very well, and I told her how I could see Jesus on her face. It was then she told me that she was a life-long evangelist and had been all over the world preaching, teaching and telling others about Jesus and needing to be "Born Again." Here is one of her favorite scriptures.
Acts 1:8 "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you; And ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." (King James Version)
"Mother" Brown, as I always called her, was born in 1897. She was a retired ordained minister. We sang at the Dauphin Manor about once every two months back in those days, most always on a Saturday in the afternoon. After a few concerts we learned to love this lady so much if she was not there we would ask about her and ask the staff to please bring her to the concert. She loved the Lord's music (I am sure it was not our voices back then.) What was happening was she was witnessing to me, more than I was to her. Over the years we became friends. Evangelist Jane Brown told me about writing a book. On May 16, 1997, we sang at Dauphin Manor and she gave me a signed copy of her book "I AM A WITNESS." It was a great birthday gift for me, signed on my 56th year. In December of that same year we were honored by her family to sing at her 100th birthday party. I want to bring this out. Even at this age, this retired minister, retired evangelist, was still working daily for Jesus. On the way in to set up our equipment, I was stopped and told by the Chaplain of Dauphin Manor, an ordained United Methodist minister, that we could not do an altar call at her party, for we might offend someone. WELL, GLORY. You should have been at her party. Kids from her home church came and danced and sang. The church choir was there. One of her pastors described her as "Mother Theresa in the African-American form." I mean God's music was really jumping and each person who talked not only talked about "Mother" Brown but also witnessed to all there about Jesus. Then it was our turn. Well, here we were and me a "white" guy singing for the Lord, and no match at all for all those who just sang. So we did "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder" and it was well received, and yes, I did the call for Salvation, for I promised God when we went singing I would always do that.
Evangelist Mother Jane Brown went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, May 5, 2001, at the age of 103 years young. Our singing group went to her service at her church. This beautiful lady, with a smile that said "Jesus is in my heart," was a witness to me and thousands and thousands and thousands of others around the world. She entered into rest near her home of Bressler, PA. Here is the scripture that was used in her service.
Revelation 21:4 - And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.
And while people were sad to see her leave this earth, there was joy in that church that day for Evangelist "Mother" Jane Brown was at home with her beloved Jesus. In the Name of Jesus, she had touched blind eyes and restored sight to them.
I am a better person for having known and been witnessed to by "Mother" Brown, and yes, when the trumpet sounds for me, I will indeed look for her at the feet of Jesus.
If any of you remember her, please send me a little note.
You say you are a Christian!!! Does your face witness for Jesus? You can witness for Jesus at any age and at any place.
Now brothers and sisters, go forth being a witness for Jesus. Love ya.
Pastor Dan
When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound
And time shall be no more,
And the morning breaks eternal, bright, and fair;
When the saved of earth shall gather over on the other shore
And the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there.
When the roll is called up yonder,
when the roll is called up yonder,
when the roll is called up yonder,
when the roll is called up yonder I'll be there.
