Friday Oct. 14, 2011 Promises 10

Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

Good Friday morning, my dear brothers and sisters. It is Friday and do you know it is raining again? But golly we don't need to shovel it. AMEN. But we need to watch for those streams and creeks to be coming up as we have had a lot of rain again. I am so happy God is in charge, I really am, and I think today we need to just stop, right now, right up front and just give Him praise and honor and glory today. Come on with me today, for indeed THIS IS THE DAY THAT THE LORD HAS MADE. THANK YOU, JESUS, PRAISE YOU, JESUS, WE LOVE YOU, JESUS, WE WORSHIP YOU, JESUS, WE LIFT YOU TODAY, JESUS, AND WE GIVE THANKS UNTO YOU THIS DAY, FOR JESUS, THIS IS THE DAY YOU MADE. And Jesus, I want to give this day back to You by living to please You in all I do...

Come on, brothers and sisters, let us make a joyful noise this day...

This is the day, this is the day, that the Lord has made, that the Lord has made,
We will rejoice, we will rejoice and be glad in it, and be glad in it.
This is the day that the Lord has made, We will rejoice and be glad in it.
This is the day, this is the day that the Lord has Made.

This is the day, this is the day, that the Lord has made, that the Lord has made,
We will rejoice, we will rejoice and be glad in it, and be glad in it.
This is the day that the Lord has made, We will rejoice and be glad in it.
This is the day, this is the day that the Lord has Made.

This is the day, this is the day, that the Lord has made, that the Lord has made,
We will rejoice, we will rejoice and be glad in it, and be glad in it.
This is the day that the Lord has made, We will rejoice and be glad in it.
This is the day, this is the day that the Lord has Made.

Holy Spirit, thou art welcome in this place, Holy Spirit thou art welcome in this place. Omnipotent Father of mercy and grace, Thou art welcome in this place.

Holy Spirit, thou art welcome in this place, Holy Spirit thou art welcome in this place. Omnipotent Father of mercy and grace, Thou art welcome in this place.

Holy Spirit, thou art welcome in this place, Holy Spirit thou art welcome in this place. Omnipotent Father of mercy and grace, Thou art welcome in this place.

This is the day, this is the day, that the Lord has made, that the Lord has made,
We will rejoice, we will rejoice and be glad in it, and be glad in it.
This is the day that the Lord has made, We will rejoice and be glad in it.
This is the day, this is the day that the Lord has Made.

Dear Father in Heaven, we adore You this day and we want to travel with You this day, we want to walk in Your light this day and we want to repent from our sins this day. To do these things we need to grab hold of You and have You help us each step of the way, please, please, dear Lord, I ask in the name of Jesus that You do just that, be with us, send the Holy Spirit upon us and give us peace and joy and may we live with that peace and joy this day and forever more... in the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Promises Day 10: James 2:15 - Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action is dead. (NIV)

Let me put that in Lehman's Language today. (Like the way I spell Lehman?) What this scripture tells me is you cannot work your way into heaven, but you also cannot get there without working. Now that should have made it clear... Ok, let me put it in the terms that might be clearer. Let's say Mrs. Ima Cook, at the local church, works Sunday after Sunday getting those dinners ready for the after the church meals, maybe once a month she is at the stove getting things all ready and she does so many other things. She also stays after all have gone home and washes the pots and pans and takes out the trash, etc, etc, and so on and so forth. She really works hard for the church, but she never really gave herself over to Jesus to be saved, she
would just keep working and working for Him... Will this work get her to heaven, NO, she must take Jesus into her heart. Then there is Mrs. or Mr. Goody Shoes who have confessed their sins at the altar many times and have come to Jesus. But they never do any work for the Lord. So the Bible tells us that all this faith with no works is dead... So now we combine these folks. Mr. and Mrs. Shoes come in early to church and go to the kitchen and get Mrs. Ima Cook and tell her to put down the pots and pans and come to church. Mrs. Shoes who is putting feet on her prayers is taking Mrs. Cook to church and telling her this. Listen, I read in the Bible I must
also work and you must confess yourself to God. So my husband, Mr. Shoes, and I want you to come and sit with us in church and then we will come and help you in the kitchen. So the point of the story is this. Today for lunch at the church we are going to Cook up some Shoes. No, no did I really say that... No, what we have is all of these folks getting it right. They have come to Jesus and now they are working for Him. Again we have one of those Promises of God, where He tells us that if we have faith and then show it in our works we will get to heaven in the end, for it is by faith in Jesus we are saved and it is by working for Him that we follow in His footsteps and stay on the path to salvation.

So now you are saying why can't we just work for God to get into Heaven? Look, I don't make the rules, here it is from the Bible...

Ephesians 2:8 - For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, 9 Not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do. (NIV)

There will be no bragging in Heaven folks, Jesus went to the cross to save all of us from our sins... Each of us will be saved according to our faith and love for Jesus and we will be saved by His blood shed on the cross for us.

John 14:6 - Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth and the life, NO ONE comes to the Father except through me." (NIV)

And now my quote that I gave you yesterday. "Go forth and share your blessings." "Lord, You have given us another day and may we give it back to You by living this day to please You in all we do." I love ya folks... Pastor Dan.
