In the Beginning God!!
Good Morning, my dear brothers and sisters. It is Tuesday and it is Schools Day on the prayer line. For you new prayer warriors on the line it means it is the day we center our prayers on our schools from early childhood to schools of higher education and for all who go through the doors plus those who drive the buses. Also today please pray for our ministry partner Pamela Bower who has been sick with the flu. Also prayers for Donald who has been taken to the VA hospital with elevated blood pressures. (Thank you Donald for your service to our country.) Also for 11 year old Kavlyn Welker.
The Journey Begins: Genesis 1:1 - In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God Said: (NIV)
Brothers and sisters, over the past years, maybe five or six out of the 12 or so years I have been writing a daily message, I have asked God to let me write about The Journey. Again I am asking God to walk us through some of the highlights of The Bible from creation, through the birth of Jesus, to His death on the cross and beyond. So sit back, relax and know the journey will be ongoing from now till after Easter. I want to try and put you in the conditions that were going on, and yes, you are going to get some homework. Today, Genesis chapter one. I am not going to type it out. If you do not have a Bible, please let me know and we will get you one and mail it to you. I am asking God to give this to me fresh, not a repeat of any past years. So let's get started...
The Journey Begins: The Bible tells us the earth was empty and darkness was over the surface. I want you to think what it would have been like to watch God as He worked those six days on creation. About 10 or 12 years ago when Dolores and I were out riding our big motorcycle we stopped at one of those caves in Virginia. Way down in the cave the guide turned off the lights and showed us what total darkness was. You could hold your finger in front of your eyes and you could not see it. It was so dark that your eyes would never adjust. If you close your eyes tight you can still see light. If you have a room with no windows you could go in there and close the door and turn off the lights, but your eyes would adjust in time from light coming under the door. So think of it, the earth was in total darkness when God decided to get it going. How long was the earth sitting like this? The Bible does not really say. But we who believe know this... God made it in the first place, He put it there. Now I could go through all six days of creation, but I just want to do day one and then let you read on your own up to where God made Man...
Genesis 1: 3 - And God said, "Let there be light and there was light." 4 God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day" and the darkness He called "night" and there was evening, and there was morning, the first day. (NIV)
I want you to think about what it might be like if we had all day or all night. Some areas have some of that, we here in Central Pennsylvania have a good mix as most people do. In 20 days we will be at the shortest day and then we start working toward the longest day which is the first day of summer in June. Most people function best in the light, and in fact some people even get sick in the winter months.. Think about the activities of the United States and while we have many people who must work overnight like in hospitals and in stores when they stock at night, most jobs are in the daytime, except for crimes. It does seem like evil hides in the darkness.
As your read the creation story two things should stand out in your mind... Would you tell me what they are? Yes, that is your homework test for tomorrow. Let's pray.
Father in Heaven, we are thankful that we have been born into a world, the one and only world that You made, we are also thankful that You made us and welcomed us into it. I am most happy that I know You and that You want all of us to work for You. Please today be in our schools, some might want You out, but we who love You want You in. Protect and nourish our dear children and all who go through the schools doors and let them teach and gain much knowledge. Lord, bless also Pam and cause her to be well. Bless Donald and Kavlyn with healing also. And Lord, on this schools day I ask you to become work with Central Dauphin School district and their bus drivers to bring them together. In Jesus Name, I pray, Amen.
Folks, this is a very busy week for we at Carry The Light Ministries. This is the big push to get the food in, for this Saturday we sort it out and pack it for 100 families... a big job that will go on in a small area called our basement. We still need donations and they are coming, I am sure. We do not hand out a meal in the name of Jesus, we hand out food and a lot of it, and when done we want leftovers on the shelves as poor and hungry people do not just eat on Thanksgiving and Christmas...
Think about how you would like just to eat a few days a year. Share those blessings, folks, and with your local food bank is a good place. We are blessed to be able to feed so many and it takes help from many to get it done. Thanks for sharing your blessings with us... but know this, you need to share them someplace... God wants that. Love ya, dan.
