June 3 2010 Whats' in a Name 8

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

Good Family Day Morning, my dear brothers and sisters. Please remember I will more than likely not be writing tomorrow morning. Next week I will opening e-mail, yes, I have been slacking a lot this week, but I will get back with it next week. Please note that you are welcome, as always, to attend church at the Bridges at 10:00 AM on Sunday Mornings. This Sunday we will be going to the Lord's Table for communion. The Bridges, 2100 Bent Creek Blvd., Mechanicsburg, Pa. 17050.

Family day and the day we pray for all families, yours, mine, the one in the White House, and please remember the family of God. Pray also for your church family. Please pray for me also as I get a chance to talk to "bus guys and girls" from all over the world. Just yesterday a man and lady stopped by while I was at our museum annex helping to get the place ready. I got to pray with them about some health issues. Pray also for the Johns' family as they travel and for Mr. Johns' health.

What's in a Name? 8: Matthew 12:28 - "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." (NIV)

Wow, what a way to round out a short week of writing, there are a lot of great names for our Lord in just those two verses. Let's look at some of them...

Rest Giver: Our dear Lord Jesus tells us Himself that He is a rest giver and He is not just a rest giver, He is the Great Rest Giver. Last night I got home late, well, late for me, it was about 8.30 PM, already 2 hours past this old man's bed time. I had to drag out the trash and do some stuff and I was tired from working at the annex all day, and then an evening meeting. Dolores had gone to bed and we talked a tad. When I got into bed I laid there and talked out loud with our Great Rest Giver, and just dozed off while talking to Him. How often have you been so tired that you were ready to drop and then you got that rest you needed? Folks, remember where that rest came from. please. Now let's look at the other part of the rest, for He also gives us rest of the mind. I am sure all of you have had been weary and burdened just as Jesus said. And when we come to Him, He will give us rest from those things also. You see the sleeping part, which we call rest, God built in for us and we need that from birth. So who is the Great Rest Giver, folks, don't lean on a sleeping pill when You can just get that rest from God. Sleeping pills can become addictive, so why not just GET ADDICTED TO JESUS? And someone shouted AMEN!

Teacher: Yes we had teacher the other day so I just want to point out here it comes up again. Jesus said "Learn from Me." Do we not learn from teachers, and who is that Great Teacher... Jesus, of course.

Gentle Man: Folks, while we are to "fear God" those who really and deeply love Him know He is indeed a Gentle Man, so never be afraid to come to Him, regardless of your load, regardless of your sin, when you come to Jesus, He indeed will carry that Load, He will take away your sins. The hard thing for us is really and truly giving over your past, your load to Him... Let Jesus take that load.

Humble Man: There is no man in the world that is more Humble. Could we learn from that, most people want that big "credit" thing (not talking dollars here). If something is done, most people want to have a letter, a note, a card of thanks, and yes that goes a long, long way. Jesus tells us that our rewards will come later when we work for Him and love Him. So folks, let's once again look to Jesus as one who has a humble heart and see if we can just follow, yes once again follow His lead, His example.

Great Listener: This one not from the Bible, or at least for today. One that God gave me this morning, you remember I said I laid in bed and was just talking to Jesus. I went on and on and on, and really was not giving time to listen to God. I dozed off, and this morning God planted on my mind that He is indeed the Great Listener. Remember He is always there, He does listen and He will listen while you go on and on. Sometimes friends might walk away, a shrink, excuse me, a doctor who earned his degree for listening will charge you for listening and then you only get a few minutes. God is free, God is there anytime, no appointment needed, and you can go on and on and on. And again, it even ties in with the scripture He pointed out for us. When we "unload" on Jesus are we not emptying our mind and therefore getting some rest from what is causing us to be weary? Amen.

Dear Jesus, Thanks for listening to us anytime we come to You. Please bless families this day and please bless our bus museum family as they travel. Bless also that family in the White House. Again they had a big party in the White House. I pray that they would "party with You" and remember that we are to be a Nation Under You. Bless them and all families this day. Bless also Your family, and I pray I am on that family list, for I indeed want to be there for the big reunion. In Jesus Name, I pray. Amen.

Go forth now sharing your blessings... Hey Spike, see you soon, Have a blessed day folks...
Love Ya. Pastor Dan.
