Dear brothers and sisters, so many people worry about their past. I want to tell you that with the exception of two people, everyone else has a past. Would you like to tell me those two people? Yes, the answer is in the Bible. Folks, I am on day 20 of writing on assignments, and each day I think I am going to wrap it up, God gives me another day. Praise God for Pastor Larry Hale, who is starting to call his flock together for even more prayer time. Let me get started on Assignments.
Saturday: November 14, 2015: Assignments (Day Twenty)
John 6:11 - Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. 12 When they all had enough to eat, He said to His disciples, "Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted." 13 So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten. (NIV)
Today one of my earthly assignments, assigned to me, by me, was to make a lot of mac and cheese. I have that done! One of my assignments by God is to write this line and I am working on it now.
Here is an assignment that Jesus has given all of us, we disciples of today. "Gather the pieces that are left over, let nothing be wasted." My mamma and pop made me learn something when I was a just a child. "If you put it on your plate, you are going to eat all of it." I confess I would slip some under the table to Mickey our dog when my parents were not looking, but let me tell you, if I got bull-headed and did not want to eat it, I had to sit at the table and even eat it cold before I could go out and play. And if my parents put it on my plate, I had to eat that also. That is how I came to love liver so much. I can remember saying I am not going to eat that, so I just sat there, it was good and cold until I decided I wanted to go out and play catch, so I ate it cold.
To this day, I like liver, a tad pink in the middle, and the leftovers, a good cold liver sandwich with more onions and mustard before bed.
When you go into one of all those all-you-can-eat places and see how much food is wasted, why that is a sin and a shame in itself. There are so many people today who are hungry, and I mean that really need food, and we pitch it out. Our big food chains who say the prices are coming down are not telling the truth. Think of all that produce you see in the stores, and each day they are clearing the stuff going bad and pitching it in the dumpster. You know that leftover fish is still being served at Long John Silvers? Okay, that is not true, but in a way it is. Think of it this way, God on creation gave us the fish, and He has multiplied it and all other food over and over and today we are still EATING OUT OF THE HAND OF GOD!! Will someone shout Amen? I mean SHOUT IT! AMEN!
So brothers and sisters, our assignment is to not waste the food. Over the years I had preached on this subject about four times. I had gone to the store and purchased two small fish, cleaned but with the head and tail still on. I then would freeze them. On Sundays when I preached on this subject, I would get five loaves of bread and I had my two fish. I wanted everyone to see just how little food that was and that Jesus served about five thousand people and had leftovers. After the service the small loaves of bread would come home and we would eat them, and the fish, well, I would freeze them again, yes, each time, the same two fish. After we left The Bridges, I found those two fish in the freezer and I am thinking I am not going to eat these, so I did not waste them, I gave them to the outdoor cats. That is a true story, folks. Brothers and sisters, try your very, very best to not waste food. And that is an assignment from God today. Another saying from my mamma. "Waste not, want not." God gives us so very much, don't waste it, just sing about it. Let us "Count Our Blessings."
Count your blessings, name them one by one.
Count your blessings, see what God hath done.
Count your blessings, name them one by one.
Count your blessings, see what God hath done.
Count your blessings, name them one by one.
Count your blessings, see what God hath done.
Count your blessings, name them one by one.
Count your blessings, see what God hath done.
Dear Father in Heaven, You have given us so many blessings, blessings upon blessings, please help us not to waste any part of any one of them. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
Now please go forth, praying and loving on Jesus as you serve Him. Love ya.
