Dear Father in Heaven: I love You. Thanks for having Your hand on us every move we made this day. What a wonderful God we serve. I pray today for those who are unsaved and I pray that You will use us today, Lord, and not just today on our Salvation Wednesday, but each and every day to lead in the lost so that they might come to Jesus to be saved. Please be with our president, and I do pray that he is saved. Please help worldwide in the fight against those who want to kill Christians and Jews and others who do not follow the hate put out by the terrorist groups. I pray for peace and also for the return of Jesus. Until that time I pray that I will work hard for You. Dear Lord, one way I try and do this is writing what You want me to write, so please bless me with another message today and please help me to get it dispatched. In Jesus' Name, I pray. Amen.
Dear brothers and sisters, we had such a great day today. I just know our Lord God worked out each and every detail of the day. Remember today is Salvation Wednesday on this line and the day we really want to work even harder to lead in the lost. We started Salvation Wednesday on this line years and years ago, trying to sort of fit something on this line that replaces the Wednesday evening prayer meetings. Yes, back when I was a child, Mamma would go to Wednesday night prayer meetings at the Twenty-Ninth Street United Brethren Church, and of course her little Danny boy had to go along. Looking back, I am so glad my Mamma made me go. One of the things that Dolores and I did today was to hand out some of the "Read-N-Grow" Picture Bibles. Time to get to the message, and I am working to end the series by the end of the week, but again, I write for God, so that could change. Also, please pray for me a new subject.
Salvation Wednesday: November 18, 2015: Assignments (Day Twenty-Two)
Matthew 26:36 - Then Jesus went with His disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and said to them, "Sit here while I go over thee and pray." 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with Him and He began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then He said to them, "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with Me." (NIV)
We find Jesus giving an assignment to His disciples and telling them He was going ahead and pray and they were to sit there and wait. Then He handed out this assignment to Peter, James and John (Peter and the two sons of Zebedee). Then Jesus opened up to those three, the inner circle, I will call them, telling them His soul is overwhelmed with sorrow. Have any of you ever been overwhelmed with sorrow? I am sure at one time or another all of us have been. Here Jesus is setting an example for us. How, you ask? He is going on ahead to pray to His Father in Heaven. That to me is just telling us that when we are overwhelmed the person to turn to is God. Someone say Amen!! Jesus then told the three to stay at a certain place and keep watch.
Matthew 26:39 - Going a little farther, He fell with His face to the ground and prayed. "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as You will." 40 Then He returned to His disciples and found them sleeping. "Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour?" He asked Peter. 41 "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." (NIV)
Here we find a great example of just how to pray. Jesus asking His Father (our Father also) if it was possible to take this cup, or deep sorrow and suffering, from Him. However, Jesus then stated yet not as I will or not as I want, but as Your will, or it is what You want, Father. We need to remember this, for if we are faithful in our prayers, we should want what our Lord God wants for us, His will. Sometimes we cannot see that when we pray, but later we will surely understand it. And some things, brothers and sisters, we will not understand until we are at home with Jesus in our final home.
One last thing on this. The disciples fell asleep and Jesus was questioning them. Could you not stay awake for one hour? How often have you gone to church and while sitting there you sort of dozed off? Gosh, I am guilty of that. I am. Truth be known, maybe the only complete I could stay awake through was when I was the one preaching. No, I can stay awake when there is a pastor really on FIRE FOR GOD. But some, well, you sit there and fall asleep. So do we have an excuse? Sorry, Pastor, but the disciples fell asleep. No excuse, we are to be Christ-like. Okay, enough for today.
Not My Will, But Thine (Hugh C. Benner)
Not my will, but Thine; not my will, but Thine.
Not my will, but Thy will be done, Lord in me.
May Thy Spirit divine fill this being of mine.
Not my will, but Thy will be done, Lord in me.
Dear Father in Heaven, please help us learn that it should always be Your will to be done and not ours. I confess that I do not always understand it, but I pray today that I will always accept it. In Jesus' Name, I pray. Amen.
Go forth now and please serve Jesus. Love ya.
