Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in Heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him? So in everything do to others that you would have them do to you. For this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
Good Friday morning, my dear brothers and sisters. Yes, it is Friday and another week is gone, in the history book so to speak. When you look into that old mirror I ask you, what went into the history books under your name this week, was it good, was it bad, did it make a difference, and brothers and sisters, we all need to be putting things in each week that are good. Today is the day we pray for those who are following Jesus and working in the fields of harvest for Him.
Thanks for praying for Dolores and thanks for all who have called me to check on her. She is still in the Medical care unit at Community General Hospital (Harrisburg, Pa.) Yesterday they found she has a blood clot in her leg that had the new knee. She was also loaded with fluid so she is being medicated and well, drained, to make a point. She seemed more alert last evening... THANK YOU JESUS. Please keep praying for her, for the answer is in prayer and the healing hand of God, even if He, God, chooses to work through the hands of the talent He has lent to doctors. Let's get to the message of today.
Ask, Seek and Knock: Day 5 Matthew 7:9 - Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in Heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him? 12 So in everything do to others that you would have them do to you. For this sums up the Law and the Prophets. (NIV)
Let me see if I can sum some things up on this today. We are to Ask, meaning ask God in prayer about things, and we are to Seek from Him, through that prayer, things that we might need and even things we might want. And as we ask, and as we seek, we also need to be knocking on the door of our Lord so it will be opened unto us. Today I want to tie those verses we have been working with and talking about this week, with what we call the golden rule. First I love this, as we have those who do not believe in God, do not believe in Jesus and do not believe the word of the Lord found in the Bible who just say this. "If we could all just live by the golden rule, we would all be ok." Well where does that "Golden Rule" come from? If you said the Bible you are right on this day.
Matthew 7:12 - So in everything do to others that you would have them do to you. (NIV)
As we read the Bible and look at Ask, Seek and Knock, what do we do when people come to us? Meaning you and me and ask for help? How do we handle it? Here it is in the Bible, we should handle it like we would like it done to us. And I pull out of this that we should answer it the way we would like GOD TO DO UNTO US. Each day I tell you, ask you, maybe even plead with you to "Share your blessings." For I truly believe that we need to share our blessings we have gotten from God, and you know this I am sure, He will bless us even more.
So as I wrap it out today, I would like you to consider doing unto others as you would want, not just others to do unto you, but what you would like God to do unto you. When you ask and seek out God and even knock on His door, don't stop when you ask just once, keep on asking for God does want to hear from you. (is that twisting God's arm).
Dear Father in Heaven, help us each day to do unto others as we would want You to do unto us. We really do want to be your agent today and from now on, we want to work on your behalf, and Lord, we know that we must work for You here on earth, help us learn that when a hungry person prays for food, that we need to be for You so that You may answer that person seeking food and asking for food because You have blessed us. Help us lean these lessons today. In the name of Jesus, I pray for all those on our prayer lists, and yes, for healing for my wife... Lord, thanks for all You do, I pray this line is always for You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Now, one last thing before I leave you. For years and years I have been typing the messages for the line, each as fresh as God gives me each day. I can't spell and most of you know that, I struggle to even read, a lot of you know that. But I can type, very, very fast for I had a teacher in school that taught me good. Mrs. Railing from John Harris High School. Anyway, I have not said anything to you, but I need your prayers. The right side of my body is starting to go numb, mostly in my hand and fingers. I have trouble feeling the keys on the keyboard. This is also driving me nuts (not a big drive). So please ask God to give me feeling back in my right side. Oh, I am not going to give up writing, I am not going to let Satan set me down, for I promised the Lord to work for Him. But some days it is getting harder, typing, even sitting at the computer, so please brothers and sisters, keep me in your prayers.
Now go forth sharing your blessings, and sharing them the best you can, for God will replace them for you, when you share in faith. Have a blessed weekend and remember you are always welcome to come to church at the Bridges of Bent Creek... 10:00 AM on Sunday Morning at 2100 Bent Creek Blvd, Mechanicsburg, Pa. 17050. You may call me for directions, or even just to talk... 717 991 0754.
Love ya. Pastor Dan
