Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him.
Good Morning, my dear brothers and sisters. It is Thursday and I do really hate to sound like a broken record but it is another just beautiful day here at the Southern Location of the North Pole. We were over 90 yesterday in the shade in our back yard. (Eat your heart out Bobbie! Bobbie is a lady I went to high school with who is on the line and lives in the sunny south.)
Outside my back window as I look east toward the sunrise I am looking right through our Japanese Ornamental Cherry Tree which just seems to come out overnight. Our other flowering trees are in full bloom. I sure wish I could take a picture of it and send it to all to see. WE ARE ALL SO BLESSED...
Today is Thursday and it is family day on the line, so please remember to pray for families and remember these families... The Family of God, the President and his family, and please, when praying for them, pray that they find Jesus and become saved. Oh, am I judging, no, just using my brain. Please pray also for the Saylor Family, Idler Family, Pastor Tony, Ruby and family, Allison and her family. And yesterday I received a prayer request to pray for a one year old baby boy... Memphis Lewis is in the Hershey Medical and I was told in bad shape due to pneumonia and complications of that. While we are talking Hershey Medical, please pray for all children in their children's hospital. They work a lot with children with cancer.
On The Road Again 4: Luke 24:29 - But they urged Him strongly, "stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over." So He went to stay with them. 30 When He was at the table with them, He took bread, and gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him and He disappeared from their sight. (NIV)
Ok, back into the shoes of those two men walking along the road to Emmaus... Remember I was in one set of shoes and you were in the other (crowded shoes, right?) We pick up our story as night closes in and we still have no idea who this third dude is that joined us walking along... We had just invited this guy to spend the night with us. So we stop and the three of us sit down to, well, to break bread together. Now let me point out right here where the statement of sitting down and breaking bread came from... I wonder do those who do not believe in God use that saying? Do they have any idea that it CAME FROM THE BIBLE? Sometime when we are out with someone we think does not believe, we should say to them... "Do you want to stop and break some bread together?" Then as you eat, tell them the statement came from the Bible. Ok, moving on... The three of us, the up-to-now stranger, and you and me. Maybe we are still talking about the events of the day, remember it is still the day Jesus was risen from the dead. We might, as a lot of people do, talk about the weather.
I speak up and say something like this, boy I am tired, my feet are killing me, I will be glad to get into the sack and rest my weary body. You agree, saying something like this... Yes, it has been a long day and a long walk, but the weather was really nice, but it sure was hot. Do you think we should turn on the AC? (Just kidding about that one.) So we are making small talk around the table when the stranger picks up the bread and breaks it and gives thanks. Now look what happens next, and it is very important. Up till now we had no idea who this stranger was, we were walking and talking with this man...
Luke 24:31 31 - Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him and He disappeared from their sight. (NIV)
Notice that their eyes were opened and they recognized Jesus. This stranger then became very clear to us. OUR EYES WERE OPENED. Notice that Jesus did not change from one person to another, His looks were the same. Remember that is in scripture also... He never changes. Let me review that scripture as it is so important right here...
Hebrews 13:8 - Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today and forever. (NIV)
I want to point that out for Jesus never changes and that to me means not just His actions but also His deeds and His looks. We are the ones who changed. Now, for sure we remember the stories in the Bible about how Jesus healed the blind eyes. You remember them, how in one case He had to do it twice for the first time the person saw people as trees walking. But I want to point out that this is really what scripture means. You see we so often only think of the blind person, meaning one with that cane and seeing eye dog, having their eyes opened. While Jesus surely still heals the eyes of the blind often through the hands of doctors, and heals the eyes of the almost blind and again often through the hands of doctors (example Joe Pa. Penn State football coach and Katherine Idler, Pastor Charles wonderful wife) but the real, very real part is how He heals those blind eyes that cannot see Him. Notice that, please, because that is one of the real messages of this trip to Emmaus to me. I mean, it was about showing others that He truly was risen, that Jesus overcame death and the grave, but as in all scriptures there are many more messages. Yes, we see here as proof that Jesus is risen, but we could not see it till Jesus opened our eyes to see it.
Today, where do you stand, are your eyes open or are they blind? Can you see Jesus? Remember to have Jesus in your heart is to see Him and know Him... If today we, you and me, were walking along the road, let's say we were just walking along the road to Harrisburg, Pa. (hey I am writing, I pick the town) and we were walking along the road (facing traffic of course) and we come along a man walking along the road and let's say it was Jesus, would we know Him? Now I said let's say it was Jesus because you and I also know that when He comes again He will not be walking along the road, He is going to meet us in the sky... ah, that is if we have our eyes open and are not blind to Him.
Ok, enough for today, tomorrow a little more as we go "On The Road Again" and find in the Bible how to overcome blindness. Can you tell me some verses where it shows us how to overcome blindness? Let's see if we are thinking the same.
Dear Lord, open our eyes on this family day, touch families on the line and elsewhere, touching first the family of God, and opening up the doors for us to help more and more people to join this family of Yours. Use us, dear Lord. Bless our president and I pray, I pray for his soul and for the soul of each one in his family. Thanks for the messages, Lord, open now the eyes of those reading, help them understand when I type words wrong, what they mean. Help me learn how to spell and type better and better. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
Now go forth sharing those blessings, something I am going to remind you of each day I write. Or have you noticed that already? Share them in faith and surely you will receive more. Gosh, I have received two big blessings already this morning, and I am not even keeping score. One, I woke up, and two, so did Dolores. Now go forth loving and sharing love... love ya, Pastor Dan.
