Dear Father in Heaven, thanks for waking me, thanks for all You do, thanks for the coffee, and Lord, please forgive me of my sins. Lord, please be with Patsy Emig as she fell last night. Be with her husband Burt as he stands beside his dear wife. Please also be with Jendi as she has surgery tomorrow. Please be with Ken's wife and son, and Lord, I am sorry, I do not know their names. Lord, again I pray for peace across this old world and across our nation. Now, dear Lord, if You would bless me again with another message, I would sure appreciate it. Then, Lord, please dispatch it for me. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
Good Morning, brothers and sisters. We now have a date for a short work session here at Carry The Light Ministries home base. It will be on SATURDAY, AUGUST 10th. We will be starting at 9:00 AM and WE WILL BE DONE by noon. Lunch will be furnished!! More about the chores in the days to come. Prayer requests that are just in and a few updates.
Jendi M. Sansoni: Jendi is having "female surgery." (Praise God, they are not looking for cancer.) Jendi is the daughter-in-law of my dear friend Tom Sansoni, and Jendi's parents own and operate Forte Music store, which is CHRISTIAN BASED.
Patsy Emig fell last night and it was reported to me she was to be admitted to the hospital. Husband Burt is really beside himself. I will keep you informed.
Ken McNellis is in need of prayer for his wife and son. I am sorry, I do not know their names, but I will try and have them for tomorrow.
Bob Durgan: Local talk show host who is retiring this week. I was blessed to pray with him "on air" yesterday.
Robert "Lee" Coburn: Surgery tomorrow at Hershey Medical Center. This is for prostate cancer.
For the family and friends of those who lost their lives on the church bus crash.
Brothers and sisters, I had a great day yesterday and so did Dolores. It was a beautiful day and we just kept on working like we were young!! After last week' messages about Paul and Job, I had to give myself an attitude adjustment. I have told you many times that God gives me messages that are not just for you, but 100% of the time I am in need of them also. Be sure to look at Pastor Dan's Safety Tip as today I take a quick look at "Is your church bus safe?" Now, brothers and sisters, let me get started on the message ...
Tuesday, July 30, 2013, Trials and Temptations, Day Two.
James 1:2 - Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
James 1:5 - If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6 But when he asks he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does. (NIV)
Brothers and sisters, how is your wisdom? "Wisdom is having an understanding of what is true, right, and lasting." (American Heritage Dictionary) It involves also good common sense and good judgment. So again I ask this morning, how is your wisdom? Do you have a good understanding of what is true and right? If you are lacking in it, the Bible tells us we can ask God and He will give it to us generously, if we, if we only have faith and believe. I just need to put this in, God is good and God is great, and often we think about how He supplies our needs, like the air we breathe, the clothes we wear, the food we eat, and the water we drink, and He supplies us well. We forget, however, that God supplies our needs that go far beyond our basic life supporting needs. And brothers and sisters, those basic life supporting needs do not stop here on earth, but He of course has supplied us a way through Jesus to save us from our sins and live forever within the Kingdom of God with Jesus.
Of course you know that, or should, but in case you need to update yourself on that, please get out your Bible and read John 3:16, John 14:6, and Romans 10:9/10. But let me get back and look at wisdom.
God tells us that if we lack wisdom, we should just ask. And brothers and sisters, I know I have some wisdom, but I know I could use more, so today I just want to pause and I want to ask God for more. Will you join me please, this again is a prayer we must do on our own. This is a one-on-one prayer. Let's go.
Dear Father in Heaven, I know I have some wisdom, some understanding of things, but as I write and as I do other things in life, I need to be sure I have enough for the things I need to do, or even want to do. So Lord, I come to You, knowing that according to Your word, you will supply all I need if I just have faith and believe. And yes, Lord, I do have faith and I do believe, and I have not one doubt in my mind that You will supply it tome. So Dear Lord, I ask this of You and give thanks for I know it is already done as I ask, and I do ask in the name of Jesus, my Lord and Savior. Amen.
Brothers and sisters, wisdom also involves good "common sense," and I can remember years ago, yes, back when I was but a child, back when those streets were still dirt, and I remember my dear mamma telling my dear pop something like this. "Webster, I know I only had two years from Shippensburg Normal School to teach, and I know you have a Bachelors degree and a Masters degree and you are studying for your Doctorate, but you don't have any common sense." Now she did not say it often, or at least where I could hear it, but she was talking about running the household or trying to run it on five to ten dollars a week for food, etc. (Can you believe that today?) So brothers and sisters, as we pray for wisdom, remember that we might need to ask for some good common sense. I am sure all of you know people who are very well educated but lack that wisdom and lack good common sense.
Remember now what our Lord tells us. We must believe and not doubt. Listen please to these words from Proverbs ...
Proverbs 1:1 - The proverbs of Solomon so of David, king of Israel: 2 For attaining wisdom and discipline, for understanding words of insight; 3 for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair; 4 for giving prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young, 5 let the wise listen and add to their learning and let the discerning get guidance. (NIV)
Remember, brothers and sisters, if you ask God and doubt that you will receive it, the Bible tells us "that man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord." So again I say, brothers and sisters, please pray in faith in all things, remember this. "Prayer is the key to Heaven, but it is Faith that unlocks the door." The Quite, word for word, well, I do not know who started that one, but I do know this, IT CAME FROM THE BIBLE. Again, you can quote me on this one. "Get in to the Word and not into the World." I will also say this, if you are praying without faith, "Save Your Breath." (My quote.) Time to check out for today, except for the Safety Tip: If your church bus safe?
Now go forth, sharing your blessings, having faith in God and living for Him. Love ya. Pass it on.
Pastor Dan
Pastor Dan's Safety Tip: Is your church bus safe? First, let me qualify myself. I hold a Commercial Driver's License, I was a certified Commercial Driver's Instructor doing most of my work with buses, and mostly school buses. I also held a Commercial Driver's Examiners License. So with that said ...
Most of the churches that use buses purchase used ones. Some purchase school buses while others want those coach, or charter, type buses. Some of those used buses might have 2 or 3 million miles on them already! Some of the questions you need to ask yourself as you get on the bus, who is doing the work on the bus now? Not even all charter buses are kept in good repair, as there are a lot of operators out there not doing their job. But this is about those church buses. This past weekend, a church bus was involved in a crash, a youth pastor, his wife, who was with child, and a chaperone, were killed. Yes, four deaths on a church trip. The news quoted the driver saying "his brakes failed." If the brakes fail on a bus with air brakes, it is a matter of two things, the brakes were not adjusted properly, and the driver did not know how to or did not do his brake check before going on the road. You see, if the bus is in good repair and the service brakes fail, your Air Emergency Brakes come on the second you lose air pressure. However, if the brakes that house those emergency brakes are not adjusted properly, the bus will not stop. That is why you need a driver that knows and understands the commercial driver's license laws. And brothers and sisters, the Church bus requires the operator to have a commercial driver's license (unless it is a mini-bus).
Please, folks, do not be afraid to ask questions when you use buses for church. Lots of times it is better to rent (charter) a bus and operator, and you need to do that from a good company. Do not just rent or charter for the best price. I know for a fact that if you do operate a church bus, and you need or want some instructions, I will find you someone who will help you. Brothers and sisters, this is a time for a good quote. While you can pray and you should before each trip out in your bus, you also "need to put feet on those prayers." And you need to get the bus checked and the driver also. If you need help on this, have someone call me ... Pastor Dan, 717 991 0754.
