January 29, 2010: The Journey 40

"Blessed are the pure of heart for they will see God." "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation."

Good Morning, my dear brothers and sisters. The moon was full and the stars were out and now we are looking at a sky with not one cloud. Today being Friday is the day that we pray for all those working in the fields of Harvest for our Lord Jesus. And Jesus is giving me the message on this subject, working in the fields of Harvest...

The Journey 40: Matthew 5:8 - "Blessed are the pure of heart for they will see God." Mark 16:15 - Jesus said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation." (NIV)

So often we think of Missionaries who go to foreign lands as the only ones who are working the fields of Harvest for our Lord. WRONG... Brothers and sisters, right now we are seeing a lot of pictures from Haiti and I know we have and have had missionaries on the ground in Haiti. But let me tell you where the real missions fields are today. They are located wherever we find people who are not saved... Pastor Larry Hale and Pastor Kevin Brown, two very good friends of mine will find their mission field in front of them in their church as Dolores and I find our mission field at The Bridges. Brothers and sisters, you do not need to go to Haiti to find a mission field, in fact you might find one in your own neighborhood, or as for that matter you might find one right in your own family. Now let me talk about Haiti or a place like that, maybe even down there in New Orleans, for you do remember when Katrina hit, right? Missionaries need to be in places to talk about God before the storms hit, before the earthquake kills so many people. Folks, this is very blunt, but think of this, under those tons and tons of buildings lay the bodies of tens of thousands of people, how many who were killed went to the Lord and how many are now seeing the face of Satan? When the waters came up in New Orleans and some were lost were they saved or were they not? On 9/11/2001 when the planes went into the buildings, we know how many people were lost, but do we know how many souls were lost and how many went home to Jesus? No we don't, and these few examples are just that, a few examples of these kind of very tragic things that happen. WE NEED TO BE IN THESE FIELDS OF HARVEST BEFORE THE BIG EVENT.
Brothers and sisters, I cannot begin to express to you just how we need to be in those fields and how each and everyone of us needs to be working them for Jesus. The harvest is ripe today folks, it really is. While some might seem like they hate God or do not believe there is a God, some of those same people are hungry for that word. Yesterday I wrote about that hunger and thirst for God.

Folks, as you all know we have a very active food pantry in our basement, and when people pick up food we talk to them about Jesus and we pray with them. These same people who hunger for the food we furnish (we and again this we is you folks and us'ens), those same people hunger for God, they need prayers for healing, some have split homes, others children with handicaps and they hunger for God, even the children, hunger for the touch of God. When we give them food they are thankful, and when we huddle up in prayer they are even more thankful. You are a disciple of God, a missionary if you please and you do not need to go far to find that field of Harvest, just open your eyes and your heart... Amen.

Dear Father in Heaven, we stand ready to go into the fields, please, Lord, hand out our assignments, open our eyes so we may see them, and let us speak out for you this day. Lord, bless all of those who are working in Your fields and bless all who receive those workers. In the name of Jesus I also ask that you touch and heal those on our prayer list today. In Jesus name, AMEN.

Now go forth, working those fields, and you can do a lot working those fields by sharing your blessings, so let's get to it. Now may the good Lord bless and keep you, may He cause His face to shine upon you and give you peace, and may the God of peace go with you. Love ya, Pastor Dan.

January 28, 2010: The Journey 39

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled."
Good Morning, my dear brothers and sisters, and welcome to family day on this line. Please take time today to pray for families, for your family and mine, and folks, please, all those families in Haiti that have suffered so very much. Also, and most important, pray for the family of God and that that this family has new "re" births each and every minute of each and every day.

The Journey 39: Matthew 5:6 - "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." (NIV) (Words of Jesus)

Most of us, when we hunger and thirst, we go to the fridge and see if there is anything there to eat or drink. But folks, please don't stop reading after the words hunger and thirst, look for that word "righteousness". Do you hunger more and more each day for the word of God? Let's face it, if you are not hungry for it a tad, would you be reading this line at all? Brothers and sisters, if you really, really hungry for righteousness and the word of God you will find that if you pray and then read a scripture God will open it for you. Then I challenge you to do this... Take the same scripture, take on of the ones you like the best and pray about it and read it and see what God gives you on it. Then, and then, in a few days take that same scripture and pray about it and read it again asking God to open it deeper for you. Then do it again in a few days. Pastors who dig into the word will tell you that God puts a different light on scriptures all the time. If you hunger and thirst for the word, you will find it.

What does it really mean to hunger and thirst for righteousness? Righteous means to do right, do what is good, and to do what is good you must dig into the word of God. I went to my dictionary this morning to look up the word righteous and believe it or not, it referred me to the Bible... I LOVE IT! So I went to my Bible ...

Psalm 37:9 - For evildoers shall be cut off: But those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth. (KJV)

Folks, there is no doubt in my mind that those who follow the WORD OF GOD and follow in THE FOOTSTEPS OF JESUS will be blessed and blessed and blessed and as we give those blessings away we will get more and more and more. Yes, if we stay away from evil we will, as the Bible tells us, inherit the earth, but better still is we will someday RESIDE in Heaven with our Lord Jesus.

Folks, long for it, thirst for it, set time aside each day for it. I know a lot of people take a lunch break on jobs where they really look for something to do. I drive past a Blue Shield office in my travels and since they do not permit smoking on the property I see people driving up the street and park their car with the motor running on the cold days so they can smoke. Gosh, why not go to their desk or in a break room and sit down with the best book in the word, The Bible? Or get a daily devotional and get together a little group and have a discussion on break or lunch. Hunger and thirst for your lunch and let your lunch include the word of God... AMEN.

Dear Father in Heaven, each day I want to hunger and thirst more and more for your word and to do things right. Please help me with that, please help all of us with this. Let us hunger more for You than the burger that You provide for us. Lord, bless families today, and I pray that today I can help bring someone into that family. Dear Father, help all those on our prayer list, and Lord take the cancer from Ron's body today, heal Him today, Lord, and let him know he has been healed... In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Now go forth sharing those blessings and hungering for God more and more, hunger and thirst for good and do it... Love ya, Pastor Dan.

January 27, 2010: The Journey 38

"Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called sons of God."

Happy Salvation Wednesday, my dear brothers and sisters. Dawn is breaking and there are more clouds in the sky this day, but still a beautiful morning. Today we are blessed to be able to travel to Duncannon Pennsylvania for a 2.00 PM Concert at Stone Bridge Retirement Home. Of course you are invited to attend. Please take time to pray today for the unsaved and for God to use we who are saved to help bring in the lost. Other prayer requests at the end of the message.

The Journey 38: Matthew 5: 9 - "Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called sons of God." (NIV)

These are the words of Jesus being quoted, my dear brothers and sisters, and let me point out that in my mind there is a major difference between peacemakers and peacekeepers. In short, a peacemaker is in my mind someone who will set down and try and work out problems between different parties who might be at odds with each other. While a peacekeeper might be a police officer or our military who stands armed over others to see that a fight does not break out. Those are in short, now let's dig in just a little bit. I know on this line we have some different family members where there is a sister or brother who really tries to be a peacemaker in their family. Different members of the family just do not get along with each other, some fight all the time, while others just do not talk to one another. And you have one or two of the family who hates this and wants to see the family all get along. Yes, we do have some of those on the line. And I would think we have some peacekeepers also, who when having family events do not invite the parties who do not get along, or they have two outings so that they get to see all of the family.

One place where peacemakers and sometimes even peacekeepers are needed is in the church setting. You would not think that, but it is a fact, friends, as members on the board for one reason or another just do not see eye to eye and while you have others who will try and work things out, even doing what we are to do and that is pray about these things, it just gets way out of hand, often ending with a division in the church or a bunch of people leaving and starting another church.

If I look now at what is going on in Haiti I can see both working there. I see those going in peace and working trying to dig out the injured, while others are working on the injured and still others handing out food, etc. And yes, those would be peacemakers as they come in peace to help. In the meantime, a lot of folks, including our military, were sent in to help and a lot of them are being used to keep the peace which is what are military is really good at.

A lot of times it takes that third person or party to be the peacemakers between others. Even in war, it takes people to sit down and try and work out the differences between those fighting to get the war to end. Although our Lord Jesus tells us that there will be wars and rumors of wars and that must come to pass, He still wants us to be the peacemakers on this earth. In fact if we all were peacemakers we would not even need peacekeepers, am I making sense here? God has ordered we who have chosen to be disciples of His to go into all the world and tell them the good news. And what is that good news? It is about the peace and love of our Lord Jesus Christ and salvation through Him... How long has it been since you have really worked being a peacemaker? Yesterday, a week ago, a year ago, or maybe never? Now wait a minute, how often have you been the peacemaker and you did not even think of it that way? You are with your spouse, and you really want to do something, something you like, maybe you are stopping to eat and you would like to eat at a sit down place but the "old man" wants one of those eat till you are sick places so to keep the peace you give in. Or you give in to the kids and instead of that soup and salad you were wanting you go to the Pizza Hut or to Mickey Dees for a load of grease. Or maybe one in the family wants to watch one thing on TV and one wants to watch something else. So you give in, or in the case of a parent you go and keep the peace. Folks, don't think of peacemaking on the world front all the time, think of it being right in your home or in your community or in the schools.

If we truly want to be a peacemaker we will do our best to work for God each day and if we work hard at being a peacemaker we might not need to be called on to be a peacekeeper... AMEN.

Dear Father in Heaven, help us to teach peace, to teach love, to teach understanding and to help unite folks together, help us to make peace. Lord, so often we join in the gossip or we tell tales we edge others on... and then we are not working for You. Help us to always work for You, and on this day our Salvation day on this line, help us to bring that peace and joy to others by bringing them to Your feet to be saved. Lord, be with those on our prayer list and help them in their walk in life... In Jesus Name, Amen.

Now go forth being a peacemaker, and folks, sharing your blessings will go a long way in doing just that, being a peacemaker. Remember, if you do a good job at being a peacemaker you might not need to be a peacekeeper... Love ya, Pastor Dan.

January 26, 2010: The Journey 37

"Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy."

Good Morning, my dear brothers and sisters, what a beautiful morning. I have set my computer in a different location and now as I prepare the message God gives me I can look out my window and watch the sun come up. This morning here at the Southern Location of the North Pole the sky is a very light red and the clouds are few as the dawn is breaking after a day where we had 3.66 inches of rain.

Today is Tuesday, schools day on this line. Please, please pray for our school children. Other prayer requests listed at the end of the message...

The Journey 37: Matthew 5:7 - "Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy." (NIV)

Blessed are the merciful! Do you show mercy on others? Let me ask you a question this morning. You are pulled for jury duty and the case you get assigned to is very serious, let's say armed robbery with an assault charge. The man who did the crime was about 22 and the evidence is there, in fact he was caught on camera so it is very plain to see that this young man did the crime. You are on the jury and it is up to all of you to decide what will happen to this man. You do a background check and find that he has some things in the past, not armed robbery, but a simple assault and a couple of drug charges. You have seen the man in court, you have watched him, you have looked in his eyes, you have seen the eyes of those he robbed and the one he assaulted and you have seen the face and eyes of the young man's mother. Now you know you must do something, he really does need punished. Do you send him to the local lockup, or off to state prison where the big timers go? Will you show mercy or throw the book at him? Will you recommend to the judge some rehab in jail or will you say let's send him to "split rocks" or hard labor? Oh, and what is the man's skin color, if it is different than yours, would that make a difference to you?

We do not face it each day but more often than not. We may not be on the jury but we read about these things and in our minds we are saying, throw the book at him, or please have mercy on him. People who are in charge of the hiring and firing at work places face these decisions almost daily. Do you fire them and train someone new or do you give them a day or two off and retrain them? Do you show mercy or fire them?

You are walking out the door of your work place and you have about $3.00 in your hand and you are heading for that burger joint across the street, you have enough for the special, a small burger, fries and a drink. Then it happens, you see this old person on the street and they are hungry, do you take them along to the burger joint and buy three of those $1.00 burgers and on the way back to work you hand that hungry person one, or do you give them two or maybe even all of them? Do you show mercy or let them be hungry while you fill your belly?

Are you really thinking about this? It happens daily to Jesus, does He show mercy, forgive us and send us to heaven or does He just say, sorry, I don't know you and you head to hell...
I want to bring something out here again, let's go back to the scripture. Are you ready for this?

"Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy." These the words of Jesus, and folks, the way I read this if we show mercy to others we will be shown mercy. If we do not show mercy, please do not expect it from God. Throughout the Bible we will read these things and we will touch on them more tomorrow. Dear brothers and sisters, today will you show mercy on someone, find someone and show mercy on them, seek them out and show mercy on them? And then go to prayer and ask God to show that same mercy on you. Will someone say Amen to this today...

Dear Father in Heaven, teach me mercy and show me the people who in my life need the mercy... and Lord, please show that equal mercy on me. Lord, I ask today for no more than I give for I am unworthy of any more. Lord, thanks for the mercy You gave to all of us when You bled and died on the cross. Bless also this day our schools and all who have anything to do with them. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.

Now go forth showing mercy and you can do that in the way you share your blessings. Jesus loves all of you, and He will show mercy on you, if you show mercy on others. Love ya, Pastor Dan.

January 25, 2010: The Journey 36

"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me."

Good Morning, my dear brothers and sisters, it is Monday and it is raining and if it was snow we would need to "jump up to spit" (my quote, folks). Today as we pray we need to be praying for those living along those low areas as this is a very wide spread, very very heavy rain. The good news is God knows what we need, and being rain we do not need to shovel this. It is also right now at 7.00 AM 57.2 degrees at our home. Today, Monday, is the day we pray for our military, our leaders, our police and firefighters, and let me add a few for this day. Pray for the workers of the Red Cross, Doctors without Borders, and all the Missionaries and others working in Haiti. Also there is an airliner down and all are to be lost, please pray for their families...

The Journey 36: Matthew 5: 11 - "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me." "Rejoice and be glad because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." (NIV)

As we are traveling this week we are going to be taking a look at the Beatitudes and other things that happened to Jesus and His disciples back when Jesus walked the earth and also some of the things we face now as disciples for Jesus Christ in these times.

One of the things that we (you and me = we) must learn to do is look past the tip of our nose. I am serious when I say this. How many of us (you and me = us), how many of us when we want something we want it RIGHT NOW? Look at some simple things, we go into a restaurant, we sit down and expect to have a waiter/waitress standing there to take our order, if we need a minute more to decide they better be back in a minute. If we go and get a new appliance we want it delivered to our home yesterday, if we get a car we want it right away. So why am I bringing this up, the fact that we want it NOW? If we purchase a house and we must go through all that mortgage stuff and credit checks, it seems like it takes forever to get to the settlement table. And so it goes, so here we go working for our Lord Jesus and we are to WAIT TILL WE GET TO HEAVEN for our rewards. We are told that we will be blessed if we are persecuted because of Jesus, and while I believe that, really, really wouldn't we like to see some of the blessings NOW, while we are here on earth? Wake up brothers and sisters for if you are truly working for the Lord then you will surely see a lot of the blessings now, for you indeed cannot outgive the Lord. The rewards in Heaven are going to be so good, they just have to be because first of all Jesus said they would be, and second they are going to be so much better than what we have here on earth and let me tell you it just ain't all that bad here. While a lot of us might have dug ourselves in a hole, if we focus on Jesus, come to Him fully we will find that He will pull us up. And yes, WHAT a day that will be when our Jesus we shall see...

Brothers and sisters, if you run into those who want to put you down, so what, just keep working for the Lord, don't let those evil ones get to you, stand on the promises of God, and yes I could break into song on that one also. And if you slip and fall, watch for some of those who claim to be Christians will surely come and instead of helping you up, will put you down with gossip or trash talk. Folks, talk to Jesus daily, talk to your friends about Jesus daily, read your Bible and claim the victory, for indeed there is Victory in Jesus... Gosh I could sing again on that one.

Tomorrow I am praying that God will give me a message on mercy and grace for the Bible tells us that if we are merciful we will surely see mercy... AMEN.

Dear Father in Heaven, please help us through this day, forgive us of our sins, may we walk each step in Your light. Lord, please be with our troops, in the foxholes, in the airstrips of Haiti, in each and every place they are, but most of all I pray they, our troops, will invite You into their hearts. Be with our commander-in-chief and with all of our leaders and with all those who work to keep us safe and healthy. Lord, help us this day to come nearer to You. In the name of Jesus. I pray. Amen.

Now go forth sharing your blessings and loving on Jesus and your neighbors, invite our Lord Jesus into your house and turn it into a home. Love ya, Pastor Dan.

January 21, 2010: The Journey 35

People brought to Him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, AND HE HEALED THEM!

Good Friday Morning to you, my dear brothers and sisters. Friday is the day we pray for all those who work in the fields of Harvest for our Lord Jesus, the Disciples we have been talking about this week.

Again, prayer requests and updates will be listed at the end of the message.

The Journey 35: Matthew 4:23 - Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. 24 News about Him spread all over Syria and people brought to Him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, AND HE HEALED THEM! Hebrews 13:8 - Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today and forever. (NIV)

While Jesus was calling His disciples, He was also teaching and preaching the Good News of the Kingdom, and that good news is the same good news that we are under a command from Him to take out to the world. (Mark 16:15) The most important part of the good news is that Jesus is the same and of course salvation though Him and HEALING through Him. Jesus will not fail us folks, He just will not if we just keep our faith. We have prayer requests coming across this line all the time, and today I really want to point out that prayer and faith really works. I have had direct healings and healings from God that have come through the hands of doctors who have their talent LOANED to them by Jesus. Brothers and sisters, any doctor worth their salt knows full well that God is helping them in all they do and will give the glory to God. I want you also to know that I had cancer and it is gone, I am clear and I have just two more years to wait and I can go back to donating blood.

I want to point out just a few things from these scriptures that God has directed me to today. First the one from Hebrews 13:8 where we learn that Jesus is the same yesterday, and today and forever and ever... Meaning that all the things recorded in the Bible that He did then, HE IS STILL DOING. Now let's just look at a few of those things. He healed and is still healing people with EVERY DISEASE, which includes but is not limited to CANCERS, broken bones, depression, minor colds, major flu, kidneys, liver, heart problems, sugar problems, eating disorders, drinking disorders, drug related sickness tumors, brain injuries, birth defects, you name the health problem and Jesus can and will heal it ACCORDING TO HIS WILL AND PLANS FOR US. Folks, if you do not think God heals, look at this, when a person breaks a bone, a doctor can line it up, put it in a cast, but who heals it? CASE CLOSED ON THAT ONE... God heals it.

Do you know that ALL OF US have had the healing hand at one time or other from our Lord Jesus? First of all, when He made us He built in a system that will fight off those things, our autoimmune systems. He also has healed us from things that we never knew were wrong with us. And sometimes we must, yes, we must push past pain and keeping working for Jesus. Not always easy to do, but we really need to do it. Brothers and sisters, I truly believe in the healing hand of Jesus, I am not writing this message to just make you feel good, or to make me feel good, I am writing it because I believe it and know it is in the Bible and that should excite you. I have also seen it, and I have as I told you, been blessed with His healing hand. I have also had two grandkids that were in accidents, that were given back to us, one had to be restarted on the road at the scene of an accident and a person was right there that knew how to do it. Only Jesus can line things up like that. So brothers and sisters, you who have those Cancers, Heart Problems and other problems KEEP YOUR FAITH AND NEVER STOP WALKING WITH JESUS.

Over the years on this line we have prayed for and seen answered prayer for people who were in accidents and were in comas for long periods of time, months and they woke and are now living happy, normal, productive lives. Recently we have seen what happened with Skip Shoemaker and with Douglas Boyer who were healed by the mighty hand of God. And Yes, I have been with people and prayed with them for healing and God called them on home, they were saved and ready to go home.

A year ago I was called on to start planning a funeral for a lady at The Bridges, she was given less than a week, and was at the Bridges with hospice care. I went in to pray for her, leaned over her and with her family there I prayed and prayed and then starting singing Amazing Grace, and this lady, who had not eaten or communicated with anyone, starting singing with me... Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, when I was done praying I said to the family I think we are going to have her for a while. She is in the front row in church each week, and although she has memory issues, she seems to be getting better and better each week... TO GOD BE THE GLORY, not me!

Folks those of you on the line who are sick, or have friends who are sick, GIVE IT TO JESUS and have faith, expect the healing, expect the healing hand of Jesus, claim the victory in advance, for it is coming. Yes, go to your doctors, and take your medications, for some are healed directly and some through the hands of Jesus and remember to give God all the Glory, and remember this. Each day we have on this earth is a blessing, please live it for our Lord, live it to help others even if you are in need of help yourself. God is ALIVE AND WELL and working. Remember in healing the first thing you really need healed is from those sins, so pray daily for Jesus to heal them for we do indeed mess up daily. Then repent and do the very best you can to walk with Jesus. Walk on the right side of the line, not on the line or on the side of evil or be crossing back and forth. Then get on your knees and ask God to heal all that is wrong with You, tell Him You would really appreciate a clean bill of health, and make God a promise and keep it, tell Him you will walk with Him and speak up and tell the good news, EVEN IF HE IS NOT READY TO HEAL YOU RIGHT AWAY. Walk out there in faith. BELIEVE IT FOLKS, IT IS IN THE BIBLE, AND JESUS IS THE SAME TODAY... YES, HE IS ALIVE AND WELL TODAY AND HIS ARMS ARE OPEN FOR YOU. Will some of you just stop and yell out AMEN?

Jesus, dear Jesus, we want to walk with You and talk with You and ask You to heal us from our sins and then heal us from pain and from cancer and from heart problems and from depression and we are asking You to help us find jobs, find work as we do not just want jobs, we want to work, and we want to work for you. And Lord we want to work for You now, we are not wanting to try and make a deal that if You heal us, we will work for You, no, no, Lord, we want to work for You now and take Your healing for us when it is in Your will for us. Lord, heal all on our prayer list, and Lord, protect those disciples of today who are working all over the world and right in our homes today. Oh Jesus, I, for one, Love You and I pray all on the line can pray this with me... I love You, Jesus, thanks for taking care of us... and thanks for this line, in Jesus name, Amen.

Go forth, rejoicing in the healings that are coming, and go forth sharing your blessings knowing and having faith that each one that you share will be replaced by many more... Love ya, Pastor Dan.

January 21, 2010: The Journey 34

"As you go, preach this message, the Kingdom of God is near."

Good Morning, my dear brothers and sisters, it is Thursday, and what a great morning to be up and alive and alive in Christ. Oh, if you are not alive in Christ, "then you are really not alive." Quote me on that one, thank you. Being Thursday, means it is family day on this line, so let's pray hard for families today, and pray for those families in Haiti who have lost so much including loved ones, and pray for the new families coming out of that by adoptions of those little orphans. Also remember there are a lot of older children in our very own country looking for homes. Pray also for the Rotz family in the loss of Calvin, husband, father, grandfather and a great man of God and one of our flock at the Bridges. I was at his bedside yesterday just hours before he went to Jesus. As you know I am not afraid to ask, so I did. I said, Calvin do you have Jesus locked in your heart and his answer was, "Yes Pastor, for a long, long time." Brothers and sisters, don't just think others know Christ, ask them!! Other prayer requests and an update on Allison at the end of the message. By the way, on this date in 1994 it was -16 at our airport and -22 at our house... Ah that global warming.

The Journey 34: Matthew 10: 1 - He called His twelve disciples to Him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness. Matthew 10: 7 - "As you go, preach this message; 'The Kingdom of heaven is near.'" (NIV)

We have watched this week as Jesus called His first five disciples and now I am jumping to where he sends out those five and the other seven. Here are the names of those first twelve. Simon Peter, Andrew, James and John, sons of Zebedee, Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew, James, son of Alphaeuos and Thaddaeus, Simon and also Judas who later betrayed Jesus.

Now Jesus gave them many instructions which I will talk more about tomorrow, but today I want to talk to you about the power, the almighty power that He entrusted to His disciples. Listen to just some of these powers... First, Jesus told them to preach the same thing that John the Baptist preached and that Jesus also taught... "The Kingdom of Heaven is near." Today, brothers and sisters, that needs to be the backbone of our messages, Salvation through Jesus because the Kingdom of God is near. I want you to remember this. Don't just think of Jesus coming back as the Kingdom of Heaven being near, we must think of when one passes from this earth that the Kingdom of Heaven is near as our Bible tells us we need to be saved before we pass from this earth. Once we die there is not a second chance. So brothers and sisters, for all of us the Kingdom of Heaven is near, and we want to make it into that Kingdom. We do not know when it might end. I mean we could be called anytime, I might be called sitting at this computer typing the message when my heart beat would go ------------------------------------------------------ Folks, we just do not know. Every day is a blessing and every day is a bonus day and we need to make the very, very best out of each day, loving God, and working for Him and loving our families and making amends for our mess-ups in life.

Listen to some of the powers, just some of the powers Jesus gave to those disciples. Matthew 10: 8 - "Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give." (NIV)

Let's look at that, Jesus gave them power to heal, to cleanse and drive out demons and even raise up the dead, and yes, they must do it in the name of Jesus. But look also at this. "Freely you have received, freely give." Brothers and sisters, we have been given so much from God and we need to share it with others, and yes, God will give you more and more. And yes, if we truly walk with Jesus, if we truly, truly walk with Jesus, and become disciples of His, we will be entrusted those same powers today, and I do believe people have those powers. I have seen some who are sick and we prayed for on this line be risen up and returned to life, and always we give God the glory, but the prayer of the faithful is powerful, folks, and prayer is comfort, and prayers are heard by God and answered according to His will, which by the way is how we should pray... (another example of Jesus).

Tomorrow, some of the instructions that Jesus gave those disciples and those examples are good for us today.

Dear Father in Heaven, today I start by asking forgiveness of my sins and shortcomings, and Lord, ask that I might work more and more for You this day. I pray that all will pray these kinds of prayers and pray them in faith. Lord, I pray today for all families, from those suffering so much in Haiti to those suffering from broken families all around the world, I pray that families all become stronger by letting You head them up. I pray today for the Rotz family in their time of sorrow, and pray they understand that Calvin now has had total healing. I pray today for the family of God that it grows in numbers and in faith and tighter in Jesus. I pray today for Vicki who has so very, very much on her plate, Lord, please help her unload that plate, help her to do those dishes so the plate is lighter. I pray today for our son Matthew, that He gets the help needed and gets back with You. I pray for Mark and Joan and others who need work, and I pray for Allison and that You hear her directly. I pray for pastor Charles that You heal him to preach again. And Lord, for the Saylor family on this family day, heal them all. In the name of Jesus, I pray... Amen.

Now go forth and share those blessings and walk with Jesus and be a disciple for Him. Love ya, Pastor Dan.

Prayer requests today, for Vicki, for the Saylor Family, for our son Matthew, for the Rotz family and on going prayers for Ron and Donna, and for Skip Shoemaker and for Douglas Boyer and others who I am sure I am missing. And now an update sent to me by the parents of Allison.

Hello prayer warriors,
Allison received a call from the surgeon, Dr. Choti, with the biopsy results. He did confirm that it is a sarcoma. He gave us the type but I refuse to research it via the internet. I don't care what man has to say about it, I am interested in what God has to say about it. We were led to believe that it is a type that generally responds to chemo. Therefore, we also received a call from a Dr. Loeb's office in Johns Hopkins to set up an appointment. We are going tomorrow with a CAT scan scheduled for 1:00PM and to see the doctor at 2:00PM. I tried to get the CAT scan cancelled as I think Allison is still recovering from surgery and the last thing she would want to do is drink more barium. I couldn't even bring myself to tell her about the CAT scan until I was told she must have it. They claim it will be a baseline scan so they can monitor if treatments are working. Allie's response was," If I have to do it, I will." She is such a trooper!!!!!

Today is a much better day than yesterday. She slept last night at 4 hour intervals. She ate scrambled eggs for breakfast and a grilled cheese with tomato soup for lunch. She is still very sore and taking her pain medicine every 4 hours but she is moving pretty well. Her swelling in her legs has gone down, no more "cankles". She still has a swollen belly though. And her mood today is much better.

We are giving thanks to God for the diagnosis, even though it is cancer. We are believing that God can completely heal her of it. She told me yesterday that she is "just so tired of being sick". Unfortunately we have a journey ahead but I prayed with her and we read some scripture and she felt better. She is reading through the book of Luke and there are so many encouraging stories of miraculous healings in that book. Also, I turned on Christian radio today and the song playing was "Four in the Fire". For those that don't know the story, three men were thrown into a fiery furnace because of their faith in God. Once in the fire, the soldiers looked in and saw 4 men in the fire.....that is because God was with them protecting them. The three men emerged from the furnace safe and it even says their clothing did not even smell like smoke. The soldiers who looked in the fire, actually burned their clothes and skin because the fire was made extra hot. Get out your Bible and read the story in Daniel Chapter 3. This meant to me that we are not going into this situation alone. God is with us. He will protect Allison. He can heal Allison. So keep praying that treatment will be so effective that Allie will have complete healing and be a miracle to the expectations that man places on disease.

We thank God for His mercy today as we wanted some good news. We will know a lot more tomorrow after Allie's appointment. Keep lifting her up. Pray that she tolerates the barium drink and the CAT scan. Pray for the perfect treatment plan that perhaps we could do here in PA rather than travel, although we will travel if required. Pray for continued pain relief and incisional healing. Please pray for us to be supportive. Pray for a positive spirit to remain with her as depression is common.

We are so touched by all of our friends and family who have been so supportive. We are so thankful for all of the prayers that continue to go up for Allison. I definitely understand the concept of prayer without ceasing. God and I have an ongoing conversation. I thank each person who has kept the faith, even when we falter. We are ready to battle this cancer and we thank you for supporting us through donations, food, visits, cards, emails, flowers, going to church to pray and mostly for interceding on Allison's behalf. We love you all.
May God bless each one of you today in a special way,
Tom, Zina, Allison and Andy

January 19, 2010: The Journey 32

Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. "Follow me," Jesus said to him.

Salvation Wednesday, Salvation Wednesday, the day we pray for the unsaved and for God to use us to bring in the lost to be saved. I was at my doctors (Dr. Lawrence Cox, DO) on Monday afternoon. He related to me how he had just talked to a couple about being saved, about Jesus, and then led them in a sinners prayer. He then told them about getting involved with a good church to take on the fuel needed to stay tight with God. I am so blessed to have doctors that take time to do this. My doctors, three of them, take time to pray with us. Sort of unheard of. Also while waiting at Doc Cox's office you hear good worship music, which is the best elevator music you can get. Salvation through our Lord Jesus is the most important part of Carry The Light Ministries, we try and get that message across in all we do.

Good Morning, my dear brothers and sisters, it is 32 degrees here at the Southern Location of the North Pole. Anyone remember this date in 1994? It was -16 and that was the official, and it got lower.

Here is the date I promised to furnish you... Tim Beitzel will be singing with The Couriers on Friday February 19th at 7.00 PM at the Glenvale Church of God (Pastor Larry Hale) on route 850 just outside of Marysville Pa.

By the way, if you are looking for a great church that teaches salvation and indeed reaches out to help others, this is a good one. This would be on the West Side of our big river, a good one on the East side of that river would be Lighthouse Baptist Church (Pastor Kevin Brown) located at 48th and Broadway in the Lawnton section of Harrisburg Pa. (off Derry Street).

The Journey 32: Luke 5:27 - Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. "Follow me," Jesus said to him. 28 And Levi got up, left everything and followed him. (NIV)

Levi was also know as Matthew and Jesus had dinner at his house. Jesus was then accused of having dinner with the tax collector and other sinners and asked why He would do this.

Matthew 9:12 - On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners." (NIV)

Boy am I glad that Jesus came to take care of sinners for I am indeed on of those. So today we see another one of the disciples being called by Jesus and this time a tax collector who on the call from Jesus just got up and went, no questions asked. So again I want to talk to you about being called by Jesus. If you have not heard the call from Jesus calling you into service for Him, you are indeed not listening. Yesterday I was at our local Giant food store picking up a few things and as I went through the checkout the checker and the one bagging the purchases were talking with me about our food pantry. We are supported in part by the Giant store and also by a lot of their employees. Now while we might think we would be to old to be working for Jesus, this lady bagging called me a young man. Wow, I thought, and she was just working away. She said "everyday is a blessing from God." And she was lifting those bags into the cart and in her way witnessing for God. I then thanked her for calling me a young man, and she told me she was 82. There is also a nice gentlemen who shakes my hand each time I walk through the store, he stocks shelves and he is disabled and works hard. A man of about 85 brings the carts in from the parking lot and sweeps up the trash that is thrown on the grown.

All of these have a kind word to say each time I see them and bid me a good day. All witnessing for God in their work. Now when I see these senor plus citizens working daily or a few days a week it does make me wonder why we have so many able bodied people drawing those unemployment checks. While I support those checks for a while, and it is also a good time to further one's education, there are jobs out there, at least in our area for those willing to work for less. In the meantime they can be talking about how good God is. Maybe that is why they have the jobs, maybe they are ones who have answered the calls to be disciples of Jesus even at their age. I watch our flock at the Bridges, ones that can walk will push and help take care of one in a wheelchair. I have watched some cut food for others who can't anymore, and even those who can't in their way witness.

Brothers and sisters, again I ask you to pray to Jesus, get on your knees and pray for an assignment from God to help others. We have many who help with the food pantry, it can't be done alone. Right now you see a lot of people going into Haiti, doctors walking away from their practices for a while, men and women taking off work to be on the search and rescue teams and still pulling people out alive. Do you think these are people who have answered the call to "come follow me and I will make you fishers of men"? I do... Do you know that 11 disciples today would not cut it, thousands, even millions of them, are needed.

Matthew 9:37 - Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field." (NIV)

Do you see where I am coming from? We are to "Ask the Lord of Harvest" for our assignment and we are to get to it. Yes, Jesus said that to His disciples, but who do you think the disciples are today? All of us, you and me, me and you. Even those who are sick, even those with cancer, we are to never stop working for Jesus. Work from the dawn to setting sun... That would be the dawn of your life to the setting sun of your life...

As we go to prayer today, please pray for Ron (stage four cancer), for Donna, his wife, for our son Matthew who was admitted to the Holy Spirit Hospital last night (we have no details at this point). Also LATE NEWS, ANOTHER EARTHQUAKE (6.1) HAS JUST HIT HAITI. I did not hear the details, it just came across the news.

Oh Lord, our Dear, dear Father in Heaven, please, please be with those people in Haiti, those who live there and those who are going in to help. And Lord, please be with those orphans who are being brought out and taken to other countries. Lord, find them good homes with good people who will love them just under You. Lord, heal in full my friend Ron, take the cancer from His body and throw it away. Lord, be with our son Matthew as we give him fully over to You for care. Lord, jobs are needed for many, please help find jobs for those who love You in places where they can witness and jobs for those who might not know You in places where others will witness to them. I pray today for the unsaved and pray that we who are saved will be able to work for You bringing in the lost. Thanks for another day of life. Bless the flocks at churches including Glenvale and Lighthouse and our Flock at the Bridges. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Now go forth sharing your blessings and remember, you cannot outgive our Lord, so give in faith. Love ya, Pastor Dan.

January 19, 2010 The Journey 31

"Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of Men."

Good Tuesday Schools day morning to you, my dear brothers and sisters. Yes, another Tuesday and another day we pray for our schools and all who have anything to do with them. One of the most important part of our schools are Parents, so remember please include them in your prayers. All so often parents do not get involved with their children, unless something goes wrong. In my years working for the schools I found the fastest way to get a parent's attention is to suspend their child from the school bus. Most all personal prayer requests are at the end of the writing, today I would like to bring this one right up front. A dear friend of mine whom I sang with in the old time gospel choir at Christian Life Assembly of God a few years back has stage four cancer. I ask that you keep Ronald Leidigh on the prayer list for healing daily even if you do not see it listed. I will give you updates as we receive them. I talked with Ron and his wife Donna (pray for her also) last evening and they are traveling to the Hershey Medical Center daily for treatments, and this alone is very tiring. Both of these folks are born again, and long on faith and Ron is very, very upbeat.

The Journey 31: Matthew 4:19 - "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." (NIV)

After our Lord Jesus prayed and fasted for forty days and forty nights and told Satan to get out of His life, He started to teach and preach. What was that first subject that He taught? Repentance my friends, repentance! From Matthew 4:17 - From that time on Jesus began to preach, "Repent, for the kingdom of Heaven is near." (NIV) Where did we hear that before, this repentance thing? We heard it from John the Baptist as he was out preaching and teaching and baptizing before Jesus and even baptized Jesus. You recall that, I just wrote about it about a week ago, and if you would like to review this you can go to our blogspot where you will find the writings posted by our ministry partner Pamela Bower. (She even cleans up my spelling.) Check it out at carrythelight4Jesusblogspot.com.

Matthew 4:18 - As Jesus was walking beside the sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon, called Peter, and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fisherman. (NIV)

Now this is when Jesus called on them to come and follow Him and He would make them fishers of men. Can you just think about this statement today? Let's say you were out working for Jesus, and we are all to do that, and on this day you wanted to find some men to help you. You see a couple of guys along a stream fishing for some nice trout and you call on them. Come with me and I will teach you to fish for men. On today's climate you at the least would get those dirty looks, and at the most you might get your face beat in. I brought this out to show a point of what sin and more sin has done to the word of God. It is sad when we must weigh our words so much in what we say. Even, and I have talked about this before, even the Rainbow in the sky has been given a new meaning by the gay groups. Folks, let me tell you that when Jesus called Simon Peter and his brother Andrew there was no thinking like that and those men just laid down their nets and followed Jesus. Going on, Jesus now walking with the brothers they came upon a boat... Listen how this went.

Matthew 4:21 - Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed Him. (NIV)

Now let me bring forth some thought here. None of the four men had any trouble laying down their nets and following Jesus. Had they heard about this man called Jesus and they wanted to work with and for Him? Were they just tired of fishing and just wanted to take a walk about? What about brothers James and John when they just walked away from their dad Zebedee, what were these brothers thinking? Did it go like this... Dad, we are going to take a short break and we will be back in a bit, and what did dad think? Boys, boys what are you doing, we have work to do here. Folks, I think that these men knew about Jesus and wanted to be with Him, but did they really know what they were getting into? Folks, I think it would be hard traveling with Jesus, let's face it, they walked everywhere they would go. Where would they sleep, what would they eat, etc. (let it up to me to think about the food part and a nice warm bed)? Now here we go, ladies and gentlemen, let me ask you to put your feet into the shoes of one of those four, and try and think about it as back then and not today when we already know so much about Jesus. What would you have done? Would you have put down the nets of your income, give up your business, and walk away from it all for Jesus, a really big walk in faith? Would you be able to do that? What would it really have been like? What would have you told your dad? Folks, even today if you have a good job and you are getting a nice income and someone offers you another job and you would really like to try it, it is a tough decision. What if the job fails, I have good benefits here, but I really like the other job maybe better, but what might happen in the future? What do you do? I would hope you would pray and pray about it and see which one you feel God wants you at, and which will in the long run help you and your family most and which job will let you best work and support the working of our Lord. Changing jobs is a hard decision for most, what if I fail, can I get the old job back, what happens IF? And the ifs go on and on and on. So you pray and trust in God to help you. Our daughter Danelle just did this, please pray for this new job she has.

But here we see these men being asked to follow Jesus and there is no offer of a contract, no offer for better pay, or bennies. Yes, it might be easy for us to look back and say yes, I would walk with Jesus, so then I ask this question, what if He calls you now? Would you lay it all down and follow Him? If you are married, what support would you get from home?

I know a young man who has worked and followed Jesus all of his life. He has talent on loan from God to be able to do many things including wiring homes, and he has this great tenor/bass voice and wants to work for Jesus and follow him. He has a peach of a wife who supports him in this mission for the Lord, and when I say supports this mission, I mean it in all ways. Go and work for the Lord and I will work helping to pay the bills when things are tight. But even before this man was out of high school the ground work was being laid for him to follow Jesus. His late parents supported him in this mission. When He started singing with a group back then it was done for the Lord and often required him to reach in his pocket and pay his own expenses. He still answers the call, and again often does not make enough on donations to cover the bills, but that does not stop him. This young man is just one of many I could tell you about, but you see, I know this man and I know his heart and above all, above the love he had for his late parents, above his love for his dear wife and his son and daughter, he loves Jesus. He still walks daily with the Lord, and he is still fishing for men (and women) to follow the Lord. He does it day and night, weekends, and when not fishing for men he works some part time jobs fixing wiring and other things to help pay the way. I met this fisher of men back in 1985 when he was a teen and he set an example for me. He is one of the reasons I started to sing for God, and there were others. This man truly laid down those nets and followed Jesus and still does today. Today he does it as one of the new Couriers, carrying out the mission that was started over fifty years ago by another group of fishermen who are still out there fishing for men (and women). I never had the chance to meet Simon Peter or Andrew or James and John (I will someday) but I have met this young man, even drove their bus a couple of times, and I am very, very pleased to know this young man who carries the Bible name of Timothy. If you get a chance to hear him sing, don't pass it up. As I said, his name is Timothy, we call him Tim, his last name is Beitzel and he will be coming soon to the Glenvale Church of God. I will try and have that date for you tomorrow. Maybe you can join me and watch and hear him and the Couriers as they fish for men.

Homework, today and tonight, think about what you would do if you get that call from Jesus that would say to you, put down your nets and come work for me, how would you handle it? What would you do?

Dear Father in Heaven, Oh how we really want to put down those nets and follow you, but we could make one excuse after the other and not do it. Lord, help those who are on the fence see that if they follow You, You will give them what is needed to get the job done. Lord, today I pray for our schools and all who have anything to do with them. Bless them all including all of the parents of school kids, help them all get involved, and Lord, please go into our schools on the hands and lips and minds of our kids and teachers and parents. We want You in our schools, please don't listen to the ACLU and those who want You out. Also, dear Lord, please be with Ronald and clear his body of cancer. Bless also his wife. Be also with the Saylor family and thanks for protecting Dan Saylor from a breakdown on the road. Be also with Harold and with Skip and all others on our list. And Lord, thanks for healing Edgar. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Go forth sharing your blessings and fishing for men and women in the name of Jesus. Tomorrow on fishing... Love ya, Pastor Dan.

January 18, 2010: The Journey 30

"Do not see revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself."

Happy Martin Luther King, Jr., Day my dear brothers and sisters. It is a really nice day here at the Southern Location of the North Pole and it is above freezing, Praise the Lord. It is Monday and the day we pray for our leaders as we are directed to do, but wait a minute, those leaders are also neighbors and we are also to love them. The Bible does not tell us that we must like what they do, but we must love them. That also goes for those who are living in sin and promoting those sins, we must learn to hate the sins (both ours and others) but truly love the sinner as ourselves. It is also the day we pray for Military, and remember to pray for those in Haiti and for all down there right now. Also to pray for our police, firefighters and all others who work to keep us safe. On that list should be those search and rescue teams that we so often forget. And remember, folks, to pray for those K-9's that work so hard on these teams. We have prayed often for pets on this line. Did I tell you that we are receiving a half of an elk and a half of a really big buck? The hunter, 85 year old Stanley Bingham, who resides at the Bridges, took it to a professional butcher shop and I told him we would pick up half of the butcher bill. It will come back wrapped and ready for the freezer. I am sure this bill will not be little and trusting God to help us with that... God is good.

The Journey 30: Leviticus 19:18 - "Do not see revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself." I am the Lord. (NIV)

Our Journey continues this week as we walk with Jesus and He calls some of His first disciples. However I will jump into that tomorrow for today I want to talk to you some about His calling of disciples later on, meaning after He left this earth to return to the right hand of His Father in Heaven.

Do you know and understand that Jesus to this day is still calling His disciples? Let's face it, brothers and sisters, all of those original disciples have been long gone, and if others would not have answered the call, where would we be today?

Martin Luther King, Jr., is a good example of a disciple called into work for our Lord Jesus, and yes, it cost him his life. Does that remind you of the others that worked for Jesus? And folks, there have been many, many missionaries that were truly disciples for Jesus who have lost their lives doing duty for our Lord Jesus... Martin Luther King, Jr., made a speech, and folks, you will hear it time and time again today if you have any news on... "I had a dream", and I do not know all of the speech but I know it included in it that black children and white children would play together and that regardless of color all would get along. Today, Lord, I want to tell you that I also would like to see that come true, but sadly I think we might have gone backwards since we have our new president. I am going to be very bold here... Do you know that a lot of folks have been looked at as racists if we did not vote for President Obama? Let me tell you that I am not a racist and I did not vote for him nor would I again, as I vote life.

Brothers and sisters, if you want to see good examples of loving your neighbor, look at those search and rescue teams that are in Haiti right now going in under those fallen buildings and pulling people out. I think if Martin Luther King, Jr., were alive today he would see that his work was not done in vain but is being carried out. These teams, some of them the same who responded to New York on 9/11/2001, are the same as in Haiti right now. They love life and love people. If you saw the news this morning you would have seen 3 children pulled out from under a house, alive, today, and how the people loved it. Yet still on this same day unborn babies of all colors are being aborted, some getting done on the tax dollars of those of us who hate this. How can anyone take the life of those babies? Do you know our pets get better protection than our unborn children? Do you know that an unborn baby is our neighbor who we are to love? Do you know that we are killing off future leaders of countries, do you know that we are killing off future tax payers who would someday help support this country and fill jobs? Do you know that we are killing off future disciples of our Lord Jesus?

Let me get back on point here today. Folks, as we talk this week about Jesus calling His first disciples and also His disciples of today, I want to ask you this question from the bottom of my heart... Are you a disciple of our Lord Jesus? If you can truly say yes that is great, that is good, and we need to pray for you to keep up the work. If you are not sure, we need to pray for you for that and maybe, just maybe, before this week is over you will have a change of heart on this subject. If you say right out, no I am not a disciple, then please follow this line this week. Our Lord Jesus needs more and more disciples today, He needs millions of disciples. And it does not matter about your age, I have seen teens and younger who were disciples and I have seen old, old men, some called very young in life and are still working hard for the Lord, good examples of this, are Dave, Duane and Neil, called into service as disciples and still going strong and I believe getting stronger and stronger. Praise God for these men and others like them. I thank them for setting a good example for me and many others to follow.

As we go through the week I will tell you just when I was called to be a disciple and where I was when it happened. Ok, enough for today. Lets pray and remember those personal prayers coming in are listed at the end...

Dear Father in Heaven, thanks for another day of life, and thanks for calling me to be a disciple, and thanks for trusting me to do service for You. Thanks for Martin Luther and also for Martin Luther King, Jr., and all others who have worked for You and all who work for You today. A lot have given their lives, Lord. Bless those today on our prayer lists, from our leaders to those down in Haiti who are pulling out the ones trapped, Lord bless these folks and bless all in the country. Lord. we do not understand why the earthquakes hit, but we sure can see good things now coming out of this. Lord, may Your glory shine though this. Father while we see people responding to Haiti we see babies being aborted here in the United States, Lord help us stop it, help us, Lord, to stop this murder of Your children. Lord bless our military regardless of where they are, Lord, it sure is good to see them on peace keeping and helping and not just what most people think they do. Lord thanks again for this line. Now may we all go forth working for You... In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.

Go forth now sharing your blessings. Love ya, Pastor Dan.

Now an update on one we have been praying for... Pray for this family

Warren Lewis forwarded this e-mail from Zina...

Hello to all,
I wanted to send everyone an update to let you all know what is happening in Baltimore. Allison is doing so well. She was moved from ICU on Thursday afternoon. She got a Dilaudid pain pump at 5:00 AM on Thursday morning which helped immensely with her pain control. She told me that the night in ICU was the longest night of her life. She must have asked me 100 times what time it was. She was able to cough and walk on Thursday. She coughed up a lot of thick stuff and walked pushing a wheelchair for support. She has bruises all over from multiple IV lines and heparin shots to prevent blood clots. She has done amazingly well post op.

Yesterday they took out her IV and started her on clear liquids. She has a lot of bloating in her belly and was afraid to eat until some air passed. Today she finally walked enough to pass some air and eat some solid food. It was a real struggle with a lot of tears and discomfort. Allie's incision is probably about 13-14 inches around her right side, directly under her rib cage. It looks like a giant smile! That is how we like to think of it. Today we got her pain medication figured out and got her to eat some real food. Her nurse's aid said she was making a trail of dust walking in the halls. The nurses here have been wonderful!!

Dr. Choti was in today and told us that he hopes to have a biopsy result by Wednesday. He will call us. He says Allison can go home tomorrow as long as she feels comfortable. He also commented on the number of cards he received. He didn't know an exact number but he said there are a lot and they continue to arrive daily. His secretary told me the first day she got cards he got well over 20 that day alone!! Thank you very much. This made a definite impression on Dr. Choti. He also had the head of the oncology dept. come and talk to Allison about sarcomas and the types of treatment and what to expect if the cancer is one that is sensitive to chemo. That is our prayer, that we will get a good biopsy report of a cancer that is treatable with chemo. Allison said to me that she wants to start treatments ASAP. Dr. Choti said her incision should heal a little before she starts. We are hopeful that she will have effective treatment and are praying for an accurate diagnosis and excellent treatment results. We would really like to hear some good news from a doctor. We have had too much bad news.

Well, Allison has made a rut in the hall around the nurse's station with the number of laps she has done tonight. She is doing so much better. Yesterday she had a lot of company and was overwhelmed by evening. I do ask that when we get home, if anyone wants to visit, please keep your visit short and we will try to coordinate visitors so Allison is not too fatigued and able to get the rest she needs to heal quickly. Everyone wants to help and we are so blessed by everyone. We have learned to be humble and say thank you alot to all of our angels of mercy. We appreciate your interest in our daughter and thank you for all the many measures of support being shown to her. Please keep praying and I will update when we get a biopsy result. Thank you to each and every one of you. Also, Andy was able to go to school all week but left school early on Friday and came to Baltimore Friday night. He was relieved to see his sister and help her in any way he could. Also, we still have enough food to feed ourselves for the rest of the week. We even fed all Allie's visitors and some of the nursing staff. Thank you for the food, love, encouragement, and prayers. We are not giving up this fight. As far as we are concerned, the fight has just begun!!
Blessings to all. We love you!!!

January 15, 2010: The Journey 29

"Away from me, Satan! for it is written: 'Worship the Lord your god, and serve Him only.'"

Good Morning, my dear brothers and sisters... before I go one minute more let me get this off my chest. PRAISE THE LORD - I had to get that out right away. Remember last weekend I sent out that emergency pray request for Skip Shoemaker? He went home from the hospital yesterday morning... Now it is time for all of us to do this together...

Dear Father in Heaven... Thank You Jesus, Thank You, and Praise You. Lord, forgive us for we do not praise You enough. Thanks for all You do and for hearing all of our prayers. And thanks for always answering our prayers according to Your will for us. We give You all honor and praise and we do it in Your wonderful name... Amen.

Today is Friday and the day we pray for all those who work for our Lord Jesus. Other prayer requests and the report on Skip from Pastor Larry Hale will be at the close of today's message.

The Journey 29: Matthew 4:8 - Again the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 "All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me." 10 Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.'" 11 The the devil left Him and angels came and attended Him. (NIV)

Today we see that once again Jesus permitted the devil to lead Him, and again I am telling you that we are not strong enough to let the devil lead us, but what follows we need to be right in step with. We know that Satan is always wanting to get us, we do not need to let him lead us, he is always throwing things out in front of us to try and get us, but we have a weapon against him and other evildoers. Our weapon is Jesus Christ, and He will protect us from evil if we let Him and if we ask Him to. When you are confronted with evil use these words of Jesus... "Away from me, Satan!" and do it in the name of Jesus and in faith. Away from me, Satan, in the name of Jesus, in the name of Jesus, get away from me, Satan. You see, we are not strong enough to let the devil lead us, but when we do fall into evil we have a way out through our Lord Jesus. As we see in verse 11 of today's scripture when Jesus ordered Satan away He left... And the Bible tells us when we do things in the name of Jesus and in faith, it happens.

You also notice that Satan wanted Jesus to bow down to him and worship him and Jesus told him that there is only one God and we are to serve Him only. Can you see Satan trying to tell Jesus that he would give Him everything when Jesus, who is God, was the one who made it all in the first place. The world does not belong to Satan, and folks, it DOES NOT belong to us. God made it and loaned it to us while we are here, and we need to take care of it. Now I could get started on how some might be going way overboard on this by telling us we cannot drill for oil, and about global warming. I think God put the oil, gas, coal and those things in the ground for all of us to use, and we should find good clean ways to use it and use it wisely. One of the things that I think we need to do when using this earth is to clean up after ourselves. The next time you walk into a store notice all the trash laying near the doors and a trash can and a place for those smoking butts to be placed, but in most cases they are on the ground. Also notice all the chewing gum on the ground. And when sitting at a traffic signal look out your window and see all the butts there, for it seems many, not near all, but many empty those ash trays right there on the street. We must care for this earth for it STILL BELONGS TO GOD. If God was in the back seat of your car, would you throw trash out the window? Remember that God sees all we do, period.

And for worshiping The Lord your God, that is one of the two great commandments, the other, of course, is loving your neighbor. In closing this lesson, please learn these things, do not let Satan or his evil ones lead you, and do not follow them. When you do come under attack, in fact before you come under attack, call on Jesus to protect you. This should be in your morning prayers when you first awake. We need to thank God for another day and ask for His protection for the day.

Next week the Journey moves on as Jesus calls His disciples. Do you know all of those disciples' names? Here are just a few that you might not think about as being disciples.. Larry, Tim, Duane, Neil, Dave, another Larry, Dolores, Pam, Joanne, Daniel, and more than one John, and many more who are not listed in the Bible but have been called to be disciples... Find out this next week and more.

Dear Father in Heaven, protect us from evil in the name of Jesus, and Lord, protect all those who are working in the fields of harvest for You. Keep them safe, and Lord, protect those in Haiti from more death from sickness and protect all who are alive and all going in to work with them and help them. Lord, protect also the dollars that are being sent in that they get used to help the needy, and Lord, in that country there are millions of needy, not just the ones hurt in this earthquake. In the name of Jesus, I pray, and Lord I give thanks for this line... Amen.

Now go forth and share those blessings... thanks for being with us each day and for praying for those listed for prayer. love ya, Pastor Dan.

From Pastor Larry Hale

That Skip Shoemaker is even alive after the serious aortal dissection that he had. Jan 12 - 3:50 PM. Rhonda called to say that they took the tubes out of Skip's chest. They had an incident of a high BP yesterday and are monitoring it. They are starting to meet with Cardio Rehab in hopes of getting him to their home soon. Rhonda also reported that her plumbing at the house is now working. She was without water Sunday night, Monday and part of today. Skip had an EKG done that looked good. They also x-rayed because he has had to have 4 units of blood since the surgery. But, they see no problem. They are still having some problems stabilizing his blood pressure. Rhonda said he may be home as early as Friday. Praise the Lord!! I visited with Skip this morning. He is looking very well and may even go home today!! 10:26 AM Rhonda just called to tell me she is taking him home now!!! All praise be to God!!!

January 14, 2010: The Journey 28

"It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"

Good Morning, my dear brothers and sisters. Please brothers and sisters, pray daily for our brothers and sisters in Haiti. I am sure you know by now that they have had a 7.0 earthquake and as of this morning over 100,000 have been reported dead. Also it is family day on this line and we must remember that these folks in Haiti are part of our family. As started yesterday, personal prayer requests will be at the end.

The Journey 28: Matthew 4:7 - Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'" (NIV)

Yesterday I wrote about how Jesus wants us to follow Him in almost everything that He did while walking the face of the earth, and we are to follow His examples. I also stated that I do not think that Jesus wants us to let the devil lead us around as we see Jesus let him do. As far as what happened when Jesus was tempted by the devil, we are for sure to follow that part, in other words, do what Jesus did except do not let evildoers lead you anytime. Jesus told us that "Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God." So what does that mean? Some will say that God has furnished us more than bread to eat and while that is very, very true, we cannot fully live even on all that good food. To really live, to really be alive, we need to live according to the word of God, the words God spoke when He put Adam and Eve in the garden, the words in the commandments and on and on and on... We need to feed the hungry and clothe the naked, all of those will come in future lessons as we travel on with the journey. Brothers and sisters, in short, if we are not BORN AGAIN, we are not really living.

I want to take a good look at this statement in today's lesson. Do not put your Lord God to the test. Folks, if you are going to skydive, please use a parachute, and to tell you the truth I don't know why anyone would jump out of a good airplane. Don't test God. The Bible tells us that He is with us and protects us, but please look both ways before crossing the street. Now God did protect us on this one because He gave us eyes to see and ears to hear, and if for those without sight, God gave them dogs to train to help those who are blind, and others with sight to help also. If you see a blind person trying to cross a street and you are walking, ask if you can help, if you are in a car and see that white cane with the red tip, you had better stop. But don't test God by just walking across the street without looking. You see signs in towns now that tell us to stop for those in the crosswalks, and some people just walk out. No, no, you better look. I have also heard people say that God protects drunks, but trust me, you better not be drinking and be caught, for I am not sure how much protection you will GET IN JAIL. Don't test God, EXCEPT in this one thing... and I will bring this out and close for the day...

Malachi 3:10 - "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. TEST ME IN THIS," says the Lord Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it." (NIV)

In short, you just cannot out give the Lord... Amen.

Father in Heaven, our Dear, dear Father in Heaven... Please be with our brothers and sisters in Haiti and help them Lord, first help those who are injured and those who are healthy humble to You and confess their sins, and then help with the recovery, bless all those going into help with safety. Be with our military that are going in and flying in supplies, and be on board that big Hospital ship that is leaving to go down to Haiti. Please, Lord, be with families starting with the family of God, and Lord, be with those on our prayer list that we now post each day at the end of the message... In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Go forth now sharing your blessings and remember those words of God from the book of Malachi... You just cannot out give God... love ya, Pastor Dan.

January 13, 2010: The Journey 27

Then the devil took Him to the holy city and had Him stand on the highest point of the temple.

Good Morning, and welcome to Salvation Wednesday. We are to have a warm spell here at the Southern Location of the North Pole today. It is to go all the way up to freezing! Ah, that global warming!

Today is Wednesday and that means it is the day we pray for the unsaved and for Jesus to use us to bring in the lost to Him to be saved. Also starting today I am going to list individuals who have been sent to us at the end after the closing. We have now partnered up with Glenvale Church of God and will be receiving their prayer requests. While they will post with full details I will be just posting names and a short reason for prayers. Most of you will not know the people in the requests, but as always, we pray and pray and pray in faith for them.

A short note about our food pantry. Yesterday we opened up at noon for a couple of hours and we had seven families come for food, and again they received a lot of it. Keep praying for our food pantry and for the people who come. Yesterday a lot of them were here at the same time and we formed a big prayer circle and prayed together. Folks, soul saving, pointing people to Jesus is the bottom line of Carry The Light Ministries, the food pantry is but one tool of the ministry. It is as important to feed the soul as it is to feed the body, in fact dare I say it is more important.

The Journey 27: Matthew 4:5 - Then the devil took Him (Jesus) to the holy city and had Him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 "If you are the Son of God," He said, "throw yourself down. For it is written: 'He will command His angels concerning you and they will lift you up in their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone." (NIV)

Brothers and sisters, here we find Jesus being led by the devil. And the devil led Jesus to the highest point of the temple and told Him to jump. Can you just hear him? Jump, Jesus, jump, the angels will catch You, Your Father in Heaven will not let anything happen to You. Folks, as Christians, we are to walk in the footsteps of Jesus, we are to try our very best to live like Jesus day to day. However I am going to tell you today, for I believe this is what Jesus wants me to tell you, this is one place that Jesus does NOT want us to walk in His footsteps. Often I will ask you to put your feet in the shoes of people in the Bible, but not today. First I am never going to ask you to put your feet in the shoes of Satan, and again, I believe that this is one place where Jesus does not want us to follow His lead. Now, He does want us to learn the lessons of the examples of avoiding the temptations of Satan.

Folks, if we set out to follow Satan, thinking we are strong enough to handle it, we are wrong. It is hard enough to avoid the temptations of sin, some put there by the devil and the others we find all on our own. So think about it, do you think you are strong enough to run around with evil doers and not get into the troubles they do? Let me just make some examples, you are a person who has problems with drinking and would drink daily, maybe not getting stone drunk each day but going to those bars after work each day and spending up that paycheck. Then you see the light, you go to rehab and start going to the AA meetings and group meetings and you are doing good. Then a couple of your old drinking "friends"(?) say to you, "come on and stop with us at the bar today, come and shoot some pool." So you go, and maybe that first day you drink a soda, but then you go the next day and the next day and soon you tell the bartender to give you a beer and a shot. Or maybe you have a so-called friend who knows you are on the wagon and buys you a beer and puts it in front of you. Come on, you can handle one, that friend tells you, and you drink one and then another and soon you are back doing the same thing. DON'T LET ANYONE TEMPT YOU. We are not strong like Jesus, if we already know we have a problem, why would we put ourselves back in that position.?

Do you think a person who just got freed from taking street drugs could carry them around in his pocket after going clean and not use them? Folks, when we have a problem, we need to be hanging out with people who do not have those problems.

Folks, at one time I went to weight watchers, in fact I did a lot of meetings, and while I was going to those meetings I would do good, but let me tell you that when I thought I could go into the Burger King and order a Whopper and not get back into the Whopper habit, I was wrong. Soon after I did it once I would leave from a weight watchers meeting, go right across the strip mall and go to that Burger King window and order three Whoppers and I could wolf them all down without help and I would not blame that on the devil, that was just this old guy pigging out.

Folks, come back with me tomorrow and find out how Jesus handled the temptations of the devil and what Jesus said to him. Then Friday we will do a wrap on this fasting and temptations. Let's pray.

Dear Father in Heaven, How wonderful You are. Please this day protect us from evil ones and from us doing evil on our own. Lord forgive me for the times that I might have been acting in the devil's shoes years ago and leading others the wrong way. Lord, use us now to seek out the lost, and help to bring them to Your feet. I pray that all on the line are saved already, but today I ask that You touch each one of them and humble them if they are not. In fact, humble us all and help us all to do Your work. Lord, I pray today for all those on the lists at the end of this message and ask Your hand upon them. And bless those families that came for food, and make it grow for them. Thanks for trusting us to work for You. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Now go forth in the name of Jesus, following in His footsteps and His examples except for the one I talked about today. Trust Jesus and stay away from evil, and by all means share your blessings. Love ya, dan.

January 12, 2010: The Journey 26

"Man does not live on bread alone."

Schools day, schools day, dear old golden rule days. Good Morning, my dear brothers and sisters and it is cold! How cold is it, you ask? In Florida the frozen orange juice is coming right off the trees already frozen. Hey Bobbie, are you staying warm down there? Yes, we have prayer warriors in the south, and we need to pray for all folks in the south as they do not have the heat in their homes as we in the colder climates have. I guess this is a really good example of "global warming". Folks, God is in charge of the weather, always was, and always will be... and someone say AMEN.

Pray for our schools and all who go through the doors, pray for the bus drivers also. Please today pray also for Edgar, Pastor Tony and Ruby, Pastor Charles, the Saylors, Vicki, and for Skip Shoemaker, also for Dale and Blanch.

"Stanley", one of our seniors at The Bridges (past 85 years young), recently went Elk hunting in -14 degree weather. He bagged an elk and a deer and has promised half of each to our food bank, he is also having them butchered for us. God is good.

The Journey 26: Matthew 4:4 - Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" (NIV)

Today we take another look at the temptations of Jesus and some of temptations that we face and also a little more into fasting. The Bible tells us that Jesus had fasted for forty days and forty nights and when this was over He was hungry. We also see that the devil was trying to tempt Jesus into doing what he wanted Him to do. Satan said to Jesus "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread." And of course Jesus did not listen to Satan and turn the stone to bread but we know that Jesus could have done just that. After all, He did feed thousands on two fish and five loaves of bread and had leftovers. so we know He could have done it. But Jesus was not giving in, and folks, He is giving me this word today, regardless of how hungry or thirsty you might be, do not, I say do not give into temptations. I might relate this to someone who has a drinking problem and comes clean and then goes "off the wagon" by being tempted by the booze again. Or a person who needs to lose weight and goes on a real good diet and then gets tempted by some ice cream and cake. Even some good diets will tell you that you can have that small piece but so often when we, and that includes me, when we are trying to lose weight and we take a bite of ice cream we then want to go to the Hershey Creamery in Harrisburg and eat all of it. Hershey Creamery makes the best Ice Cream and this has nothing to do with Hershey Candy Company. Gosh, did I just tempt all of you wanting to lose weight? See how easy it is to be tempted? And not all temptations come from evil doers and I wrote it this way to prove just this point. We often give credit to Satan when it really was not his to get, we need to stop giving him so much credit as I think Satan gets glory when we do just that. So folks, put the blame of giving into temptation right where it belongs, right on us. We also need to be in prayer and love with Jesus each minute of each day of our lives asking Jesus to help us and not just with this, but to help us in all things.

While Jesus did not bow down to the temptations of Jesus, we do find that Jesus went with the devil to the holy city. Tomorrow we find out why... I do just want to give you this little bit, Jesus was and is and always will be strong enough to stand with the devil and not give in. Tomorrow I will tell you why I think this is one thing that we should not follow Jesus in doing..

Dear Father in Heaven... All glory and honor and praise to You for all things good. Dear Father, please help us block evil and temptation from our lives, from our ears so we do not listen to evil, from our eyes so we do not see evil, from our smells so we do not smell evil, from our brains so we do not think evil, and last,ly Lord, block evil from our hearts so that we do not fall in love with evil. Bless our schools and all who have anything to do with them. Lord, we ask that You go into our schools daily on the hearts of those who believe and help them to share the word with the non-believers or the fence sitters. Lord, please place your healing hand on Edgar, Pastor Tony and his wonderful wife Ruby, and on Pastor Charles and his wonderful wife Katie and on the Saylor family and Vicki, and Lord, also on Skip Shoemaker. Lord, we give you all honor and glory for the healing that has occurred in Skip and the others. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Folks, after my closing today you will find a detailed update on the health of Skip Shoemaker and also another prayer request. I have also asked Pastor Larry Hale to put me on the list to receive names of those needing prayer. I will be placing those names out for you to pray. You are so faithful to God for doing this... and remember, we give the glory to Him. Now go forth and yes, share those blessings... love ya, Pastor Dan (I have been told by some that I should use my title).

This now from Pastor Larry Hale... Pastor, Glenvale Church of God, Marysville Pa.

"I spoke with Rhonda a few times throughout the day today. They had Skip out of bed and in a chair today. The doctors said that he is doing well, but they also indicated that he is losing blood somewhere, so they're going to have to do some tests to find out where. Rhonda also said that Skip was in good spirits today. Please pray that the blood loss will stop, whether it be through a miracle or through the doctors.

Please pray for Rhonda. She got home last evening to find that they had no water. Skip had replaced a capacitor on the old 3 wire well pump that they had and it has worked, but it quit. She has had some problems today trying to find someone to look at it. She just said that she reached someone who is coming today. Let's pray that it will not be an expensive repair and can and will be done swiftly.

Someone asked what an aortic dissection is, so here is the scoop: Aortic dissection is a tear in the wall of the aorta that causes blood to flow between the layers of the wall of the aorta and force the layers apart. Aortic dissection is a medical emergency and can quickly lead to death, even with optimal treatment. If the dissection tears the aorta completely open (through all three layers), massive and rapid blood loss occurs. Aortic dissections resulting in rupture have an 80% mortality rate, and 50% of patients die before they even reach the hospital. If the dissection reaches 6 cm, the patient must be taken for emergency surgery.

Quick praise report, since I have your attention: Dale Hockenberry was on the way to work today and someone went through a red light and hit him. He is home but just sore. So, let's praise the Lord!!"
